Supposedly Sterling wants £50k a week http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2230731/Liverpools-Raheem-Sterling-wants-50k-deal-EXCLUSIVE.html?ito=feeds-newsxml I know its the mail but if true cant see us paying him that amount.
From what I've seen so far we need to pay him top wages as he's a top player. Imagine trying to buy him!!!!
He's got 18 months left on his current contract and if during that time we stall on giving him the 50k and he progresses to be an even better player he'll get his 50k elsewhere on a free.
I hope he comes to some kind of middle ground of say £35k a week as seems FSG were keen on lowering the wages in the summer and dont think the new guys are on that much wage. Does he really have 3 kids you would of thought on 2 grand a week he could afford to buy some johnnys
No one thinks Downing is currently good enough to earn 70k a week. So not sure why you said that. And I know Sterling has had a positive impact on the first team, BUT, he's scored 1 goal and had maybe 1 assist in 9 league games? 50k seems rather excessive for someone who's still raw and lacks end product.
I'm sure there will be a medium ground even if this rumours true, and even if it and we don't find a medium...GIVE IT HIM!!!! He's a lot better than Cole and Downing, plus I prefer that option to signing Theo 'I'm a unproven CF that wants £100k' Walcott!!!
He's 17. He should count his blessings and deal with the fact he's young, learning and on more money per month already than most of the country earn in a year. He can piss off demanding 50k if the story is true.
As you say this may be bollox but regardless he's very, very good in most aspects of the game. I'd rather pay him what he wants than try to find and pay someone of his worth. IMO we pay him what he's worth and that is the wage of a first team player.
Raheem "boss i want a contract worth £50,000 a week" Rodgers "So you think you're being funny son?, if you carry on like this you'll be on the next plane home before you know it" Raheem "We're not in Boston now boss and i am home" Rodgers "Oh right, well you can have £30,000 a week and not a penny more" Raheem "I'll take £40,000" Rodgers "Done" We save almost half a million a year to pay another club to take Joke Hole off us.
I understand both sentiments but Sterling is a good player who will become very good if not great. Get him signed up! I reckon it will be around the £30k to £35k mark
I understand where SM is coming from but this kid is no one season wonder and we need to sign him up long term and it may take a big wage.
I'd say £20-30m would be about right when you look at Oxlade-Chemberlain for Arsenal http://arsenaltruth.squarespace.com/arsenal-truth/2012/11/4/arsenals-1434m-wage-bill-exposed.html?
