honestly watching him play for Scotland and he must be one of the luckiest people to play football ever. He scraped into the premier league, scored a few goals. he managed to be not good enough to keep 2 teams up. Martin o'neil comes along and pays almost twice what he's worth getting him a bumper signing on fee and massively lucrative contract. He has gone on to be ****ing garbage for Sunderland. Started brightly but he gets worse with every game. It doesn't seem to matter how badly he plays though as he continues to get first team football be it from the bench or starting. Adding to that the fact that he's managed to score about 3 goals in 3 seasons he is lucky enough to play for a **** footballing nation and despite his dismal club for he keeps getting picked for the national team on no basis whatsoever. I'll be delighted when this absolute waste of space get's a massive pay cut next season and drifts off into obscurity. He has done nothing in football to justify his premiership status as a footballer, his huge wages or his international career. As you may be able to tell, I'm not keen on him.
Agreed. Heard the pre match buildup on talk sport tonight. They were praising Fletcher to high heaven for his skills, ability and all round play. Never happens when he's wearing a Sunderland shirt; neither the superlatives or the display. Gutted we turned down celtic's offer for him on deadline day. I'd have happily taken the chance of relying on youth like mandron, Watmore etc should our 3 other strikers and 3 attacking midfielders all get injured before the next transfer window and then replace him.
I seriously doubt it. Honestly he has been give vast riches beyond most people means for being very poor at what he does. He is not a premiership player and I honestly think he would struggle in the championship.
I couldn't believe we turned Celtic down. We should have said to Fletcher go to Celtic on their wages or rot in our reserves. Would he risk a potential Euro 2016.
yeah, 'offer' - fat fingers time, on my phone we didn't get a loan offer on deadline day, so we had nowt to turn down. Celtic pulled out of the running early doors coz they couldn't/wouldn't pay his wages.
Definitely get him out the first team. Offers very little from the start or the bench. Crocked too often to be fully fit. But seemingly his Scotland place is never at risk = Scotland's Rooney
If you say so. Not that I believe everything the bbc sport page vomits forth but... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34142033 Celtic: Steven Fletcher deadline day loan move stalled Celtic failed to sign Sunderland and Scotland striker Steven Fletcher on loan before the transfer window closed, BBC Scotland has learned. The Scottish Premiership champions made their attempt hours ahead of the window closing on 1 September. We understand the player was willing to join Celtic but Sunderland refused to allow the move to go ahead.
Scotland just lost 1-0 and the Scots fans are pulling Fletcher to bits on the BBC website, calling him worse than sh1te
fair do's. didn't see that one..... i think it was sky reported they wouldn't come back in for him. he's a waste of ****ing money tho, the greedy ****.
