One of the modern world's most brilliant minds and a massive loss in the fight to save the NHS

    RIP.

Great mind, great sense of humour.. A man who has lived a life of pain and yet kept his sense of humour to the end.. His legacy will live on for many generations to come.. R.I.P. to someone I have the highest regard for..

I'm not usually one for these threads, but Hawking was a true genius and I've enjoyed reading his books, but not just that. A mate of mine was on strike in Cambridge some years ago, and there was a benefit evening for the strikers - Hawking turned up to give his support.

He was a fantastic social activist, you know your cause carries weight when one of the most intelligent people on the planet has your back. I fear for the NHS without him, he's been on Jeremy Hunt's back every step of his tenure. I bet that **** is glad he's dead. Massive loss to the planet but Hunt will be well happy there's no doubt about it.

Wasn't he told in his twenties they thought he had 2 years to live? Absolutely remarkable.

Great shame. Very sound on many non-science issues and lived through his struggle with disability with great fortitude. RIP...
