Tonight, Seville take on Dnipro (who?) in the Europa Cup Final. According to the "i" newspaper, "Seville's current team are built around the former QPR midfielder Stephane M'Bia". Where did we go wrong?

Classic case of not wanting to be here so played like a lunatic until they'd let him out the asylum

We didn't do anything wrong, the guy was hopeless for us. I'll never be able to look past that free kick he gave away against Wigan which led to Maloney's equaliser.

Class player. Was much better for us than given credit for. He's mostly remembered for his theatrical rolling around (his own fault by the way) and that faitfull free kick given away against Wigan. People tend to forget we would never have been infront in that game if it wasn't for his fantastic 70 yard run that set up Remy.

Will most likely win his second European Cup in a row since leaving us, being an integral part on both occasions.

    Bad player? Nah.

Didn't he score the goal for them in last year's semi final that put them through (and knocked out Juventus)? I shall be watching, and even though he was a bit pony for us, I always like it when former players succeed, so shall be cheering on Seville.

He was awful for us. He got needlessly sent off at Arsenal. He defended like a complete tart. He could barely pass a ball ten yards. He missed sitters at set pieces. He made us a laughing stock with the diving.

But he seemed a nice bloke and have his shirt to the crowd.

Classic case I think of the guy not being a good fit for lil' ol' QPR.

Like every other signing the rest of the mix has to be right to get the best out of the player.

Put it this way. Mix Angostura Bitters in a glass with gin and you will make a pleasant, aromatic drink - a Pink Gin.

Mix Angostura Bitters in a glass with piss and you end up with ... a glass of piss. (Don't try drinking this at home.)

And the final is in the National Stadium in Warsaw.

I did not see too many suporters yesterday evening, however the weather was tipping it so it was not too suprising. It is dry so far today.

Here's a good read if you got the time. It goes along way to explain exactly why M'bia (and others) are such a big success with Sevilla. Moneyball put into practice.

    http://www.thisisanfield.com/2015/05/sevilla-monchi-moneyball-liverpool/

"Compare this to Sevilla’s signings in that time and the contrast is stark.

    • Geoffrey Kondogbia, from RC Lens, £3.5m (2012)
    • Carlos Bacca, from Club Brugges, £6m (2013)
    • Kevin Gameiro, from PSG, £6.5m (2013)
    • Marko Marin, from Chelsea, loan (2013)
    • Vitolo, from Las Palmas, £3m (2013)
    • Stephane Mbia, from QPR, loan (2013, made permanent 2014)
    • Daniel Carrico, from Reading, loan (2013, made permanent 2014)
    • Ever Banega, from Valencia, £2m (2014)
    • Timothee Kolodziejczak, from OGC Nice, £2.5m (2014)
    • Grzegorz Krychowiak, from Stade Reims, £5m (2014)
    • Gerard Deulofeu, from Barcelona, loan (2014)
    • Denis Suarez, from Barcelona, loan (2014)
(These are notable names from a long list of signings during that period. Transfer fees simplified and courtesy of TransferMarkt)

Each of these players joined for sensible transfer fees and became important players in manager Unai Emery’s successful side.

Bacca, for example, is La Liga’s fifth-highest goalscorer this season, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Antoine Griezmann.

That Sevilla are able to do so while offsetting big-money sales of the likes of Martin Caceres (£7m), Alvaro Negredo (£22m), Jesus Navas (£17.5m), Kondogbia (£17.5m), Gary Medel (£11m), Ivan Rakitic (£16m), Federico Fazio (£9m) and now-Liverpool pair Alberto (£7m) and Alberto Moreno (£16m) during that time and actually improve in the league and beyond is a testament to the model.

In the past three seasons, Sevilla have finished 9th, 5th, and (likely) 5th respectively, winning the Europa League once, with another final to come this season — all while making around £32 million in transfer fees alone.

Next season they will likely look to expand even further. But how did they manage to do so?"

Have to say that whenever I have seen Seville play, not often I'll admit he looks like the marauding midfilder we never had, a seriously good player.....

The difference is he couldn't cope with the pace of the Premier League, he has more time on the ball over there and can show his skill off easily. We haven't had any luck with most foreign players and the one who did succeed got too big-headed for his own good...

Stuck with him for another year. Couldn't make it up how his career at QPR has unfolded.
