Owing to injury and selection policy, the pair have scarcely been on the pitch together since Baldock arrived from West Ham United in a deal worth £1m in August. ​ . But Stead has now recovered from injury and was deployed alongside Baldock when Robins manager Derek McInnes named an attacking 3-5-2 line-up against fellow Championship strugglers Peterborough United last weekend. And the pair hit it off immediately, Stead leading the line superbly and helping his smaller and quicker partner to grab two goals in a 4-2 home win. McInnes reverted to the 5-4-1 formation that worked so well at Ipswich for the New Year's Day game at Millwall, but Stead cut an isolated figure up front on his own in a first half in which the Robins failed to muster a single goal-scoring opportunity. Baldock was introduced shortly before half time and he and Stead linked well to inspire a vastly-improved second-half performance. Stead netted his first goal in open play this season to level matters and, even though Adam Smith grabbed a 75th minute winner for the Lions, the former Blackburn, Sunderland and Ipswich striker believes he and Baldock can develop a good understanding if given the opportunity. Stead said: "I've linked up well with Sam in the last couple of games and we seem to be getting a decent partnership going. "We seem to work off each other well. He runs the channels endlessly and that allows me to do what I enjoy doing more, which is linking play and getting us going. "When Sam came on (at Millwall) I was able to drop a bit deeper and bring others into the play, which I think is my main strength. "Danny ****tu is a big lad and it was difficult to get anything going when the ball was bouncing up around my neck in the first half." Stead had not scored since converting a penalty in a 4-1 home win over Crystal Palace in August and the Yorkshireman was relieved to find the back of the net for the first time in four months. He added: "I have not scored for a while, so it was good to see that one go in the back of the net. Ironically, that was the worst I've played for three or four games, yet I ended up on the score-sheet. "That's just the way it goes. You play well and don't score and then don't put up much of a performance and score." If Del boy Agrees, Where does this leave Davies? Cant see him setteling for the bench all season. Personally I would rather see a Davies and Baldock Partnership. As theres more chance of goals
