According to an article on ESPN FC we are looking at all these options while the new stadium is built. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...pe-to-stay-at-the-lane-during-rebuild?cc=3436 The ground share doesn't work (Spammers ew!), but what do you all think about the other alternatives?
Stay put all day long for me. I'd hate to ground share with anyone, let alone a rival. Plus, if the options are in Stratford or Wembley then our name Tottenham Hotspur becomes invalid in my opinion. Plus, WHL is only a 10 minute walk for me I can't be dealing with trains back and forth for a home game, bad enough on away ones!
I'd prefer to stay put but I've never lived in Tottenham so that particular part of the name doesn't concern me. When people ask me my team I always say Spurs but I'd still prefer to stay in Tottenham as I'm used to it. I don't like the idea of sharing with any team because then we lose our identity.
Bear in mind we are only talking about while the new stadium is being built (no name change necessary) I think a ground share (for a season and no more) is fine. Emirates anyone?
Won't be for a season though. A new stadium will surely take around 2 (possibly more) years to build wouldn't it? Still don't like the idea of ground sharing. Takes away a clubs individuality, even if it is for a season or two. Original talk a couple of years ago was that WHL would still be used while the construction of NDP was taking place, it's just Park Lane would have been demolished to create space, leaving the East, West and Paxton to sit during construction. I'd much rather that than share with anyone.
Haven't looked at the building plans in any detail, but surely they can schedule the work so that the bit that affects WHL can be left to last, meaning we would only need to leave it for a year? Losing Park Lane for 1 or 2 years would severely deplete the atmosphere and revenue we can expect, so on the whole I would still go with a ground share. Although I was joking about the Emirates! If Orient don't end up at the Olympic stadium, that would be ideal. Prem football one week and Championship football the next. Be a treat for Hammers fans to see some decent football for a while - take them back 30/40 years.
Yeah you'd like to think so, I too haven't seen much of the actual plans, it was just something I heard. Losing Park Lane would be a massive blow financially but I'd hope Levy would have already taken that into account when dealing with the idea first of all, may just mean we don't buy for a season (or two) which I can live with, 90% of our squad have at least 5 years left in them and the youngsters we have coming through will add better competition in a season or two. Think West Ham fans wouldn't know what to do when seeing decent football! They'd be out of their long ball comfort zone!
In the plans for us staying at White Hart Lane the North Stand would have to be knocked down for one season only. Not really fussed about us having to play in a building site, it's surely an upgrade on the bomb site Tottenham currently is. If we were to move out I wouldn't mind Wembley though, especially if we got into the Champions League, it was hard enough getting tickets last time, let alone with a stand out of action.
Of course I'd like to stay put , but if we had to Wembley would acceptable. Didn't the Nomads play some games there while The library was being built? No ground sharing for me.
Arsenal played some Champions League games there a while ago, PL. They got by Fiorentina and Lens, if I remember right, because their defence couldn't handle the larger pitch.
I think that as a psychological bonus, we should ground share with Rangers until NDP is finished. That'll frighten any English opponents.
I'm not too fussed what we do as long as it helps gets the new stadium built as soon as possible, and doesn't threaten our league status by not enabling us to complete our fixtures as per lge regulations. My ideal choice would be a season at Stratford, which I think would be fun and piss off the hammers, but I'm not really bothered as I say, just let's get this new stadium done.
Maybe we could use Upton Park - just to show the pornographers whjat it looks like when the ground is sold out...
I'm 10mins walk from that, so i wouldn't be adverse to it. Please let us tear down the toy cardboard towers first though
I cant remember how much of the season was played while our stands were being redeveloped yet i have this clear memory of watching us play at highbury and one of their stands behind the goal had a large screen with images of fans, created a better atmosphere then the real ones!
Ian Wright complained there were no black faces in the mural. Ray Parlour then told him the mural was at the other end...
In the early 90's we had both the park lane and Paxton ends shut for parts of a season when they were rebuilt. Going back further for the older ones of us, I remember 80/81 season when the old west stand was pulled down and rebuilt!! For me, if we had to groundshare I'd take the goons place for a season. Let's be honest, we wouldn't sell out every game at wembley.
A temp location while our new stadium is built? Well surely it has to be Wembley!! The location / name issue is a non-starter and we will have the kudos of playing in an +80k capacity national stadium for a year! Hopefully we will be in the CL as well and would have some fantastic full house nights against the likes of Barca or RM!!
