A while ago I commented on Kevin Phillips sticking his nose in to all things SAFC , things carry on with a virtually everyday update in most if not all cases stating the obvious - Their is no room for error , SAFC supporters don’t need his input to remind us of this fact . It’s nice that he has taken time to say very much the same thing about his own side as well - yes he actually manages South Shields . Does he actually get paid for spouting this absolute drivel or does he just do it to antagonise everyone because it drives me crackers , I don’t know if it’s just me but as said before he is an ex SAFC legend who should now just move on .
SKP has a more varied view of 'The Game', than many former players. Thrown on the scrapheap and marked as a failure while a teenage full back, he got a job shelf stacking and played non-league where he moved to a striker role. He must have worked his socks off because he gradualy made back as a full time player. Still the only English player to win the European Goden Shoe, (I think). With his experience, it's quite possible that he could teach me a lot about the game, even if he does irritate at times. I may be geriatric, but I'm not to old to learn.
Sadly his comments aren't insights or news .. ... just, as you say, relentlessly stating the obvious. And often with a few sly digs thrown in which is worse.
I still love him, his dream job is to manage SAFC at some point I reckon, he talks ****e though potentially, I watched football focus On Saturday and it was all about South Shields and it was good crack I nearly jumped in the car and went tbh, he is deffo up his own arse and feels the job he has is beneath him, I hope he does well and some how finds himself here, he’s a decent fella and a legend of the club if not just a bit above his station imho
I personally don't think he is that arsed about the club and does not pay much attention, until there is a vacancy for manager. But I bet he shows interest on most manager jobs. He isn't going to turn down the chance to get paid to talk about us but his comments on its a good thing that Donald is sticking around to guide KLD as he is young to be owning a club proved what I thought of his comments for a while. They are quite generic and from someone looking at our results, position most recent change of manager ownership etc but without looking at what has gone on and why ots happened. To say that about Donald when he could do 20 minutes research and see that actually maybe Donald isn't a good person to lead a naive young owner and on top of that the naive young owner has been around and involved in football at a higher level than Donald and has been set on the path of football club owner a long time ago by his family.
Boring now, the job would be too big for him anyway. His general demeanor is slightly condescending which doesn't work with modern players. Lee Clarke has the same kind of personality and he's failed miserably.
Older posters will remember the name, Mary Whitehouse. A self appointed, self opiniated, campaigner to keep 'the permissive society' off our TV screens. The response from most was to suggest that she use the off switch every time she found something offensive on her TV. (Fortunately the TV bosses, both BBC and ITV, ignored her. ). The principal is the same though if SKP get up your nose. Just ignore.
