I am incredibly disappointed that an excellent game of football, where our players did themselves proud, has been overshadowed by the actions of a mindless minority.

I was disgusted to see the pitch invasion at the end of the game, but I was proud of the way our fans responded in the face of extreme provocation. However, both sets of supporters embarrassed themselves by taking part in fighting outside the stadium after the game.

We had a fantastic opportunity to showcase Bristol Football to the nation, and although the players did their bit, those intent on causing a disturbance have succeeded in taking the attention away from what happened on the pitch.

As a club we condemn all kinds of violence and threatening behaviour, and we will work with the police and Bristol City to identify those responsible and make sure the appropriate action is taken.

Regardless of that disappointment, I must mention how proud I am of our players, despite the result. We battled hard and played some fantastic football, especially in the second half, and every player in the blue and white quarters can hold their head up high following the game.

Tom Parkes led the side well, and despite being a very young team, they showed no fear when faced with a hostile atmosphere, and kept their heads and worked hard.

If we can continue with that level of performance and commitment throughout the season, then I think we have every chance of putting together a successful campaign.

Turning our attention back towards the league, it was fantastic to pick up our first back to back wins of the season against York and then Northampton at the Memorial Stadium last weekend.

A fantastic early goal gave a slender lead, which we battled hard to hold on to throughout the rest of the game. It was not always a pretty spectacle, but it was a hard working, battling performance from an improving Rovers side.

It was nice to see Matt Harrold make a return to action, and encouraging to see a much stronger, more experienced bench, but it was young Tom Lockyer who stole the show.

John attributed Saturday’s win to the versatile young player; not only because of his goal, but also through his sheer hard work and defensive duties at the other end. Tom really does embody the true Bristol Rovers spirit, and I look forward to watching his continued development over the weeks and months ahead.

he also didnt say anything about our player being spat at or the abuse the players had along the dolman stand. what he did say was his disappointment of both sets of fans outside fighting and was happy that our fans didnt go on the pitch to square up to your lot. think he was very diplomatic and careful with his words.

No point in trading insults or insighting further provocation a balanced article from Mr Higgs with some positive thoughts to end on.

As for Tom Lockyear I would like to see him in the centre of midfield he is dogged in his approach to breaking play up winning the ball back, linking play from defence to attack and getting forward when possible preety good qualities not to disimilar to Capt fantastic,he has a long way to go but under the guidance of Ward and playing along side JJ clarkson and McCrystal he can only develop into a fine player.
