what do people think of Sarries using our pitch again next season? i know they are only using it for a restricted number of games but the pitch was so bad last season i wonder if Mr Bassini's temporary pitch assistance will be good enough. we played better away last season where the pitches were in a far better condition.
It worries me too, we don't get to play our game when the pitch is as bobbly as it was, but other clubs share with Rugby and don't have the same problem so it seems it's the state of the pitch in general, rather than Sarries...entirely!
Welcome Alpha! as H states the pitch is not the fault of Sarries (although it doesn`t help) The pitch had a life of 10 years ,Next season will be year 14 !!! Its just worn out well past its anticipated time! We cant afford to change it at present ,and I think it is wise to wait another year before relaying a new pitch until sarries have moved out for good! Like you I hope that the makeshift repairs can get us through another season!
Was passing VR this morning and stopped to have a look; there was a tractor going up and down with what looked like a flat plate behind it about 6 inches off the pitch. Don't know what that means!!????
Something will happen to the pitch to improve it...not fully re-laid though so be interesting to see if that makes it any better.
Had another look today in passing - it looks like the whole top surface has been removed, there is just soil. The only grass is a 4ft band around the perimeter. A bit like a plowed field, only flat. I guess they are completely re-seeding. Is this standard practice?
This might be the tempory measure that Mr B was on about , in which case at least he was truthful about that!
At least we don't have holes suddenly appearing like they used to (especially at the Rookery end). Apparently a hole "big enough to take a horse and cart" opened up overnight in the 1930s, another (2 feet deep & wide) appeared during a game against Grimsby in 1961 (a Mariners player put his foot in it) and a third appeared in the 80's - all according to Oli P. A bit of mud shouldn't worry us......
makes you sort of worry about the grounds foundations and to think on a couple of occasions we had ellington running around on the pitch!
