Right, well news is a little slow, so thought I'd go with a standard "who do you think the team will be" thread. I'm going for the following... James Ribeiro Carey Fontaine McAllister Bolasie Elliott Kilkenny Adomah Stead Pitman As you can see from the above, I'm still preparing myself for the worst... But if the, IMO, unlikely does happen then Pitman is relegated to the bench. Any ideas anyone?
Obviously the team is based on players we have, or are likely to have. I'll allow the optimists amongst you to select NM.
I'd probably agree with that, along with Cisse ahead of Elliot and possibly getting Nyatanga ahead of Carey. I'd quite like to see us play 3-4-3 sometime, although not in the opening match of the season, simply because we've got a good set of attack-minded players. If possible, assuming Maynard sticks with us I'd go for: James Carey Fontaine Nyatanga Bolasie Cisse Kilkenny Adomah Stead Pitman Maynard
Opinion from across the water (wanted or not ). Blimey guys, with that sort of lineup, you'd probably get to see 9 goals per game. Unfortunately, the opposition would get 5 of them.
I'd probably agree! We need to spend 7 figures on a solid centre back this season and I still think we're weak at left back. We've no depth in defence at all atm I do rate ribs and wilson though. Would like to see ribs in the first team this season assuming he can stay injurh free. He looked quality last season when working with Adomah but we need defensive cover when he moves forward. Still 9 goals a game will be good value at least
Ender, I like the thought, but we have defensive frailties when we play four at the back. Now granted I haven't seen much of Bolasie, but he strikes me as being very similar to Adomah and I wouldn't list tracking back as one of his main attributes! I think the reality is there isn't room in the starting XI for Cisse and Elliott and Maynard and Pitman. Old Sparkey - this one is for you... How do you feel about Cardiff's new signings? They're not something to get massively excited about are they? Not when compared with last season. Where do you see yourselves finishing? Mid table similar to us i would imagine.
Fordy - We've definitely got a new broom for us in Malky. He's certainly attracting a lot of decent players to the club - whether they're "decent" enough to take us forward is another matter. Andy Taylor, Don Cowie, Craig Conway, Aron Gunnarsson, Rob Earnshaw - all as freebies, with this young Plymouth striker Mason at an alleged £250K being the latest. I don't think he's finished yet by a long chalk, and the return of Bellamy is still on the cards. He's definitely building his own squad and I'm backing him to do something special by the end of the season. So much so that I've got £300 at 16/1 on the Championship title and another £300 for promo by any route at 5/1 with WH a month or so back. The only problem is we've now drifted to 20/1 for the title - do they know something that I don't.
Crystal ball job but at present I go with James Ribs,Carey,Fonts,Macca Cisse Adomah,NK,Marv Stead,Maynard. It's vital Cisse plays with whichever current back 4 Millen picks. Should Maynard leave, I think he will, then I hope Pitman excels. It took Maynard a season to shine, and I think Pitman in his 2nd season in the Championship might surprise a few. The money we get from Maynard must be spent strengthening our defence.
Hmmmm, I know you all have fond memories of Earnie when he played for you previously, but i've married into a family of forest fans and they really couldn't give two hoots about him leaving, the general rule of thumb is that when he's onside (which isn't very often), he's blazing it wide or over. That being said, who knows what a return to Cardiff will do for him. I think what MM is trying to do at your place is getting a team together (you didn't really have that last season, more a number of superstars). I can't really see Cardiff being in the mix this season, but like us here, it looks like yours is more of a long term approach. I would say good luck, but i'd be lying. I ****ing hate you lot.
Hmmmmmm......."hate" is a very strong way to put it Fordy. Couldn't we just settle for "dislike" and leave it at that? Anyway, this thread is about your team not mine. So how are you going to avoid going down then? You seem to reckon mid-table is about your expectation level, and that maybe fair enough for some - it tends to avoid the disappointment of non-achievement of ambition. On the other hand, if you just aim at mediocrity, it's then only a short step to real failure.
Yes you're right (for once) now go away , it's quite simple really win more games than 3 other teams to avoid relegation. We won't be starting off in the same way as last so we'll be fine. It's weird to just expect mid table every season but oh well rather that go down. We'd like to get in the prem like most other teams but I don't think we are good enough. But hey you never know, How do you think your team Watford B will do ?
MillensRR - FYI, I was asked a question by Fordy and gave him an answer you ***got! As for your question, I'll give you an answer as well - better than Turnip City, that's for sure.
Wanna bet? You're 33/1 for Champions and 12/1 for promo - that's how WH rate you, and they are rarely that wrong. I know that doesn't necessarily equate to our respective finishing positions, but I'd take even money that we'll finish above you any day of the week.
I take A £50 bet on that one sparkey. Personally think your guys will struggle to maintain the challenge of the last 2 seasons (chokers) where as i think we are getting stronger, killkenny i think is a good signing and when Nicky signs it will be with a get out clause so when he scored 15-20 by crimbo a premier league club will be prepared to pay decent money for him, if he goes i more than happy with the pitman stead partnership, you read it here first sparkey we will be there or there abouts come may 2012!
I thought this thread was about your side to face Ipswich? I'm going to be accused of "thread-destroying" on here when I only made a simple genuine observation on somebody's prospective team line-up 5 comments in. I'm going to back away now guys - back to your thread (unless of course anyone asks me any more questions ).
Well done for thread destroying If Maynard does go i'd like to see Taylor upfront with either Stead/Pitman
Millens - if you had an extra brain cell you'd be dangerous. As it is, I'm very grateful that you're just thick. We're used to you popping over to the Cardiff board with your Einstein-like posts, and we're all pretty worried about the intellectual challenge you pose. I can see we'll have to be on our guard this season.......................
