Our youthful and restructured set-up has been very obvious this season, as we attempt to build the next Barcelona. The youths have served us well this season, but also cost us big games, most recent match being against Liverpool in the FA Cup. However, in the long-term, as these players develop they'll have the potential to take the PL, Europe and world football by storm. So with that in mind, here is a guess at what the United team, with some additions, will look like in a decade. GK: De Gea â De Gea may be struggling this season â more with his eyesight than anything else â but he has undeniable talent and will be sticking around for a long time. Despite his errors, he has produced world-class saves this season, especially in the Premier League. RB: Rafael â Rafael is finally starting to prove himself as Gary Neville's successor at right-back with a plethora of reliable, consistent displays after returning from injury. CB: Smalling â Touted as the next Rio Ferdinand, Smalling is looking more and more like filling those illustrious boots with every passing game. Clearly plays really well as a centre-back, Smalling has looked assured and reliable almost every time he's played, and with a bit more concentration to his game, will be a great defender for us and England. CB: Jones â Jones will no doubt form a great centre-back partnership with Smalling, and is already developing a great understanding with him. He'll also probably captain United and England in the near future, and will emerge as the next Vidic more than anyone else. LB: Fryers â Fryers is a well-known having long been held in high regard by the coaches at Carrington. Fergie clearly sees Fryers as the successor to Evra. He'll play an increasing number of games in the next two seasons, and by 2013 or 2014, could be ready for a starring role at left-back. CM: Ross Barkley â Ross Barkley, not Rodwell, is the most likely Everton talent to leave for United, with the two clubs enjoying a good relationship, and the two managers also getting on well, this transfer is imminent. CRM: Andreas Pereira â Pereira is the 15-year-old playmaker we recently signed from PSV. He'll be a key figure for us and Belgium in years to come. CLM: Shinji Kagaw â Shinji is basically the developed version of Pereira â one of the best technical players in Europe, and always one to initiate forward play. LF: Welbeck â Danny undoubtedly has a massive future ahead of himself, both for us and England. He won't reach the 20-goal mark this season, but might do it next season. Even so, his all-round ability as a support striker means when Wayne Rooney is gone, he'll easily slot into that role as the spearhead of every attack. RF: Will Keane â Keane is such a talent that, despite the wealth of attacking options we have and will possess, he'll have to fit into the starting line-up somewhere. Scholesy has likened Keane to Van Nistelrooy, and the young star could well have the same impact at United. ST: Hernandez â Chicharito is the next Solskjaer, and in 10 years time when he's 33, he could easily still be scoring the goals for us; his poaching style is one that's built to last.
So you think we will not buy any players during that time that may give our overhyped young players a run for their money? It is highely unlikely even 4 of those players will even be at united in ten years
Swarbs, I know I'll receive stick for this, but unfortunately Pogba won't make it into the first-team.
the 'so you don't think we'll sign any players during that time' quote suggests it. I know what he means though, it's hard to guess who or when a new star will emerge.
Many a true word spoken in jest. Stan Matthews played for Stoke in the old First Division into his late 40's...
I'm wondering where Daehli fit's into our future team then? Surely he's one of the promising youngsters we have, along with Pettrucci and Pogba, not to mention Will Keane, Cleverly who's already breaking into the first team and and Tunnicliffe who looks promising too.
And theres the likes of Vermijil and van Velzen that I think could be looking at the step up next season. Not to mention some of the players that are out on loan such as Tunniclife, King and Brady.
