I fancy Adkins playing Harding first game. Team of the year last year and all that. Personally, I'd have Barnard ahead of Connolly and Schneiderlin ahead of Hammond.
fair point dan.. but would u see NA dropping our captain..., ahead of spiderman! and cork will be pulling the strings in the center of midfield while lallana and chamberlain do there things on the wing! and personally Barnard is not experienced enough for this level where as Connelly is brilliant!
Nah I think Adkins will play Hammond, I just disagree and think he should play Morgan (but hey, he's the professional, he knows best... I just know who I'd pick on FM ) It's true that Connolly's experience (and striker pedigree) make him a good choice but there's the question of whether he still has the legs to go, I'd be terrified if we were left with him as a regular starter because play him in 90% of games and by January/February I'd be surprised if he could still walk. Plus Lambert/Connolly/Barnard as a strike force, with Lallana on the wing, doesn't exactly scream pace, it's a bit much to rely on Chamberlain purely for that I reckon. For those reasons I really hope we sign a pacy attacking player before September.
If we don't sign another striker and he's fit then I would definately start with Connolly. Also would have Richardson right back and Guly on the bench.
Forgot to mention this in my post. I'm certainly on team Richardson when it comes to him vs Butterfield.
Richardson is built like a brick ****house and has a fair bit more pace that Butterfield. Got a decent cross & shot too. Prefer him to Butterfield but they're both good enough I reckon.
To be honest, I would start off with Butterfield. Did no wrong last season for me but if his age starts to show then put Richardson in.
Nigel has the sort of problems that managers love..who to play. I would play Connolly up front with Lambert considering his strong finish at the end of the season. The 2 goals against Biel didn't do him any harm.

Connolly is pure class, his technique and hold up play is incredible! I think Barnard's a better finisher, so lends himself well to coming off the bench if we need a goal, but would start with Connolly any day. Schneiderlin over Hammond any day but think he will start with both instead of Cork for the first few games. Going forward Cork and Schneiderlin should be the main two with plenty of appearances from Hammond and Chaplow off the bench. When you factor in Guly, Holmes, Doble, Forte and Dickson do we really need another attacking signing? I don't think so as they'd just be a bench warmer.
I personally think when it comes to finishing Connolly is a class above Barnard. I would go for Cork, Hammond and Schneiderlin though and have Chamberlain and Lallana supporting Lambert in a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1. Prefer Dickson to Harding.
