Two good goals......... unfortunately, one too many ! https://www.skysports.com/football/...ingham-1-1-swindon-town-league-two-highlights .... I was disappointed with the lack of 'cover' to block Wright's shot... As soon as he placed the ball on the ground, I saw that there was no 'wall' (( as such )), and told my sons next to me - that he's gong to take a shot and score because nobody's in front of the ball.
1. Gbode -- great finish --- considering he was being pulled all over the place.... Have we found a proper striker ? 2. Williams 3. Gale Gbode's goal was a great finish - under much pressure... Joe was too honest for his own good... If he had gone down before he struck the ball, it would have been a penalty - AND the defender would surely have been sent off ! Gills goal was all the sweeter because it was a well-constructed 'team' goal -- the sort of flowing move that I can just about remember from before Covid......Gbode has, last week, and this, shown that he has the ability to be the 20+ goals striker that we're missing.... but -- what Gills are really missing is the creation of such opportunities ..... which must be a priority when we recruit in the summer. however - Joe needs to check his temper.. I am happy that he uses his strength when challenging the ball- or holding off his marker - but - he needs to hold back on trying to mete out his own justice (((( even when we have poor officials who do not protect him ))) - because - the opposition will latch on to his 'temper' and try to wind him up - to get him sent off. In the last few games Rowe has provided a few snippets of his 'trickery' - and ability to break away from the marking defender... If we can build on what Ainsworth has started, there are promising signs for a more successful season in August.
Likes to get stuck in does our Joe, I said earlier in the season it was something we lacked and what I felt was the cause of a lot of our problems, letting teams bully us. So no issues with the red, it is what it is, and this is the period where we have space to learn...be strong but don't rise to it, great strength and forward thinking for the goal...wait, wait and bam!...
1. Masterson 2. McKenzie 3. Rowe First half was like a throwback to earlier in the season, the worst half so far under Ainsworth. But he obviously had words at HT and the 2nd half was more competitive. Shame that they scored direct from what looked a very soft free kick, unfortunately our player of the season should have done better with the shot.
Thought yesterday was a good team performance without anyone being overly spectacular. Clark struggled first half and looked nowhere near his best of recent weeks. Masterson battled with Smith all game and needed to be a bit cuter with some of the things he did to manage Smith. The free-kick he gave away that led to the goal was a prime example where he lost his composure in the battle where a more experienced and stronger head would have done better (a certain German perhaps). Anywho Swindon had the better of the first half without really penetrating our back line and we were better second half and looked the more likely of the two teams to snatch a win. The referee on the whole was decent barring the card decisions, Jonny Williams' first yellow wasn't a yellow on any day of the week and I'd say Gbode's first yellow wasn't justified either. One of Swindon's defenders was walking a thin line for most of the match but got away with it and I think that just came down being an experienced head. For next season we need a couple of more experienced leaders in the team and we'll certainly have a better season than this one. Was nice to see Ethan Coleman back on the pitch and Dom Corness had a good cameo when he came on. 1. Ogie 2. Gbode 3. Gale
