I obviously wasn't there, but have decided from what little I have seen, and a few clips for @WINDYROG in the process... 1. Akehurst - "To hear my name being chanted gave me goosebumps, I loved it." https://www.kentonline.co.uk/medway...ng-chanted-gave-me-goosebumps-gilling-257419/ 2. Oliver - for his goal 3. Cummings - quality goalkeeper but not a lot he could do about this... I should also give Tucker and Phillips a mention from reveiws that I've read, some other fans may well have these two guys in their top three, but I've run out of permitted shouts. One thing I do know from Saturdays TEAM performance is that Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been non stop crying. It should make for a good return fixture on the Saturday 19th March.
The whole team did quite well... Akehurst was 'beaten' too many times for my comfort - but he is young and has a lot of time to learn. I wasn't overly impressed with Sheffield Wednesday (( considering their league position. )) I would like to think that we might 'ride out' the current injuries - and try to secure enough points so as not to be in serious trouble - before we can think of retiring our physio.... and with a full(ish) squad, from which to choose, we might be able to (just) avoid relegation.
Possibly, yes. And we also would have won if we'd have had Kane and Foden in the team. They did. We didn't
As brb said, a very encouraging team performance. Based on my extensive experience of watching Gills this season (Burton and Wednesday!!) but also reading reports of other matches, it seems that we are able to go up a gear against teams that are generally acknowledged to be better than us, but can't put away teams that are supposed to be on a par or inferior. Yes, all subjective I know, but you know where I'm coming from, and that's what concerns me about the possibility of staying up, if we can't beat the teams around us. Anyhow, on to the matter in hand. Yes, Akehurst had a very promising debut, but as you would expect he played it pretty safe and didn't try anything too special. What he did he generally did well, so definitely one to watch, but not a star player performance. 1 Jackson - worked tirelessly both in attack and defence. And timed his slow jogs to take throw-ins from the left perfectly to annoy the Owls fans but not pick up a booking for timewasting! 2 Tucker - Almost invariably in the right place at the right time. So important against a team that on paper should have put us away without too much difficulty. 3 Oliver - could also have been Phillips, Lloyd-McGoldrick or Cummings who all put in excellent performances, but Oliver always kept Wednesday on their watch defensively and thus was able to provide a bit of relief for the hard worked defence and midfield. Took his goal very well - quality finish.
