Much like gioblues has said, could easily of been a different three, so it's very difficult to seperate them to choose the star man, but here goes for mine... 1. J Williams his little energetic bursts in the first half caught my attention 2. Jefferies, adds something every game and always trying to organise and lead from the front 3 Mahoney just quality every time he gets the ball Turner could easily have fitted anywhere in that top three. Three goals! I don't know why but I felt very relaxed about todays victory, a very valuable three points.
It's great that I am struggling to name my top 3 today because I think they all played well. 1. J Williams I thought he had his best home game for us today maybe giving him the armband helped. 2. Masterson on brilliant saving tackle in the first half and calm at the back throughout. 3. Mahoney well taken goal and looks a class above this division who I think will benefit from Stephen Clemence style of football.
1. Jefferies 2. Mahoney 3. Nichols I thought Masterson was great in the first half - which is probably best forgotten - very 'flat.'... still not sure why we had only one 'upfront.' In the 2nd half - when we attacked with more than just Nichols, we showed what the side can do...we look so much better when using attack as the best form of defence ......can I please have some more ?
1. Jefferies 2. Mahoney 3. Masterson 2nd half was the best we have played in the league this season, everyone contributed and great to see the final sub was Bonne not Ehmer hopefully further proof of a manager who wants to play on the front foot even when we are winning.
Watched on I-Follow as I couldn't get to the ground on Saturday. A week on the training ground with the players started to show how passing the ball can be more successful. Seems like at Wrexham the players had worked out they needed the ball and to pass it, just hadn't worked out how to use it. Now a few more things have clicked and what is positive is that you can still see there is room for improvement. Well if we can win a game 3-1 against a play-off side from last season and have areas for improvement then Priestfield can become the positive place it was a few months ago once more. 1. J. Williams - Clemence is already starting to get the best out of him. Excellent work to create and assist the 2nd goal and now showing what he can do by just having a tad more freedom than Harris allowed. 2. Turner - Made two very crucial saves that kept us in the game. Without those, the scoreline could have been very different. 3. Mahoney - Involved in all 3 goals. Great work to score the first goal and show the quality he possesses. Second goal was an excellent cross-field pass to find Williams in space to create the cross. For the third goal he was able to nullify 2 Salford players who expected him to tuck inside so that he could play in Alexander to make the cross to set up the third. Also shout-outs to Lapslie who showed his running ability and tried to keep things going forwards rather than back, Jefferies for a great engine and what a leap for the 3rd goal and to Nichols to score the harder of the 2 heading opportunities he had (shame he blazed the first one over). To offer some balance, I think Ogie still wasn't great and whilst Matt Smith has proved to be a very hard beast to cage this season for Salford, Smith very much had the better of him most of the game. A game like this would have been better suited to the experience and solidity of Ehmer as much as Always would love me to mention that. But we won 3-1 so that's the most important statistic to worry about.
Pegleg - I beat you to it.... I thought that Ogie was always going to struggle for height against Smith - and told those around me that Ehmer should have been chosen (( the others around me then called for medics.))
