No actual stars on display, but I'm trying to rationalise the performance by trying to consider whether those who were sent out of the trenches and over the top last night actually did as well as they possibly could. For the most part the answer, worryingly, is yes, but that's for another, ongoing, discussion. Jackson blotted his copybook by not heeding the referees warning to get on with things and picking up a first yellow for taking too long over a throw-in, and then a second for what turned out to be a stupid foul. At the time it looked to us as if Ogbene had dived, but we were about 150 yards away and the ref who was obviously closer thought otherwise. The first goal was just a stupid mix up, and I'm sure it wouldn't have been scored if Cumming had been in goal. Lack of authority from Chapman caused that one, and unfortunately after holding Rotherham not exactly comfortably since we scored, but at least holding them, we ended up gifting them the goal they needed so much to get them going. The second goal was a bit unnecessary; we had a few chances to clear the ball in the area, and if there were a goals panel I think it would actually be given as a Tucker og (again, poor lad) as Miller's shot appeared to be going wide until it hit Tucker's leg. Nothing he could have done about it. The first half was mostly like watching a video on loop - goal kick, Chapman boots ball upfield, Rotherham take possession and the next attack builds. There were (very) occasional patches in the second half where we tried to play football, but we were up against a side that were mostly more skilful except in their wayward shooting - with a bit less power and a bit more accuracy we might have shipped goals into double figures. Honestly. Oh, and losing Ehmer didn't help much either. So, on to the matter in hand, and as usual it's difficult to pick 3 from the remaining 8 starters, having ruled out Chapman, Ehmer and Jackson. Can't complain if others pick a totally different 3, but mine are

1 - (3 points) - Lee - scored the goal (we scored a goal!!!!) and constantly worked hard to try and at least hold the ball in the midfield/forward areas
2 - (2 points) - O'Keefe - spent more time than he probably wanted to helping the defence, but did a good job, especially after Ehmer went off
3 - (1 point) - Lloyd - always working tirelessly trying to mix things up

Thanks itstimupnorth, good to get a read from the game. It was certainly pleasing to see Lee open the scoring, I've always insisted he's the sort of player that pops up and is the life saver in a game when it's needed most. Sadly last night was the complete reverse of those fortunes, but it was nice to bring some positive away from it just the same.

No star players from me for this game.

    1. itstimupnorth - for 'being there'...... and immediately loses the points for being so stupid as to 'be there.'
    1. 163 other 'foolish' fans - for being there.... -- ditto --
    3. me -( ifollow etc ) ---- ditto, along with any other points over the decades, for 'being there' (( although in my defence, I could plead insanity.))

...tell you who it wasn't... Ryan Jackson....... joins Richard Rose for getting sent off - basically for wasting time (( 2nd yellow ), when Gills were losing -- at Brighton a few years ago - when Gills were 2-4 down.
