We started brightly and it looked promising after a great early first half cross in the box by Ogie, that Morgan could just not connect with.

Sadly as suspected my fear was one particular man on that pitch, none other than McGoldrick and at times they were running riot over us.

I thought Agbinone did well again and I was somewhat suprised to see him subbed at half-time, did he pick up a knock?

But do not fear Gbode was his replacement, and he was the difference in the second half when we eventually clawed a goal back...it was not to be our day again as we lost 1-2, but there were things within the side that I will clutch onto and refer to in my top three...

    1. Gbode only played one half, and he put in much determination, wasn't going to let the opposition bullying him or his team mates and showed a heart of steel, even if it did get him a card...this lad is promising, watch this space.

    2. Gale, again, and I make no apologies for selecting another youngster who was commanding at the back and not shy of giving out instructions. I felt he was let down by his colleagues for one of their goals, he did what he could, but the cavalry were not there to back him up.

    3. Ogie, I don't care, I know I'm bias, but he was the only guy I saw today that could run through their side with his strength with ease, we seriously need to think about how we use this guy, he's the man to break the opposition down, two of the best crosses into the box came from him today...but I still feel his ability to run through the middle is his quality, and we need to see how we can link that up, work on his passing (timing) and decide a permanent front man for him to aim for.

Gbode and Clarke need to be starting. I thought the lads were more up for a fight today, and stuck together better as a unit, watching each others back, it's going in the right direction on that score, but it's still got a way to go to see a finished article. I don't mind the yellows if they are being picked up for the right reason.

In summary, far from perfect, but I'm seeing some blossom appearing, but we are still a couple of months off Spring. Soz if I was watching a different game to everyone else lol, I'll get my coat.

I wouldn't say it's hard to choose the top two today as it was a very poor performance

    1. Gbode- I really don't understand why he didn't start. At least with him you know he's going to give 100% and that's really would make a good start if we had more players like him at the moment.
    2. Gale- Same as above basically. Gave 100% and looks like a player who could grow. It's just a shame he's surrounded by too many others who let the team down (especially midfield which has been absolutely shocking the last few games)
    3. Ogie- This one is a bit harder as to be honest I don't think anyone else really done that much however Ogie does at least work hard even if he does make some mistakes so for me he's probably 3rd today.

I really do hope next week we start with an actual 2 upfront as it's such a waste bringing Morgan in and then playing him out wide. It really doesn't work. I personally don't understand why we don't experiment playing with a 4-1-2-1-2 as I know I leaves midfield open a bit more however we were playing 3 in central midfield today yet we still looked about as open as the great lines!
Im thinking back to more what we played 10 years ago and maybe in the mould of how we played Andy Frampton in midfield maybe we could do similar with Ogie at the base of the diamond? I've seen a few others call that he could potentially play midfield I believe you did brb?

    Morris
    Hutton
    Gale
    New centre back
    New left back

    Ogie
    Clarke
    Aginbone
    Dack

    Morgan
    Gbode

I feel it makes the most of Dack in the central position too. If he isn't fit to start then try Nolan in that position. But we seriously need to change something and without a huge overhaul of the team I feel switching the formation and trying something drastically different is our only chance to actually start creating something!

Yeah I would play him midfield. Just watching today, for all of Notts County's strengths they couldn't handle him if he runs at them, he's not the sort of guy you can knock over easy. His delivery into the box is improving. I don't care where he plays in midfield, just do whatever suits him best and the team. I think Gbode, Ogie and Aginbode gel well. Add in what should be the clinical touch of Morgan, Clarke or Dack and we'll be on all four cylinders firing.

Frustrated... In the first 15 minutes the game was 'competitive.' - There wasn't a lot to choose between the two sides .... then the calamity of a freakish goal - at which point the 'stuffing' seemed to be knocked out of the Gills.... The 2nd goal was a sublime finish - but - I believe that it happened when the intensity level had dropped... Gills became lethargic, and allowed a fairly decent side to look like World beaters... Gills just didn't commit with 100% passion -- as was evident with County - who were aggressive ( mostly legally ) , right up to the end.
You can't legislate for goals like the first - but - you need to regroup and continue doing what was very much OK before the opener........Instead, it looked like (most of) the players simply 'gave up.'

Optimistically, I believe that the players (( or, at least, most of them )), can be much better - but that the fundamental difference between the squad v other sides in L2 is :
1 We move too slowly with the ball.
    2. We move too slowly off the ball.
    3. We move too slowly without the ball.
If Gills players and management can't grasp the essence of correcting No. 1, 2 & 3, then they can all take the advice that was given by the Rainham End, to one of our players.

1, Gale cool head for a young player found himself out of position a couple of times after pushing up front understandable we were chasing the game.
2, Ogie has played well last couple of games.
3,Gdobe bright after coming oni think he needs to start as Nevit is way off it.

Thought Little showed a lot of effort as ever but he gives the ball away in dangerous positions too often.

I think it would benefit the team and the flow of our attack to be honest. He's clearly someone we need to get on the ball more often and a move into midfield would do that. I doubt we will try it as we are overloaded with central midfielders at the moment and quite light on defenders which is where the problem lies!

I just cannot get my head around why no one is persisting with 2 upfront. I know formations have changed over the years and a lot more managers are moving away from 2 upfront and it's more likely to be a 1 with 3 behind but with the squad we have and the lack of fluid movement and creativity behind the striker it just doesn't work for us.
We need a much more simple old school formation for our players.

It's about time we actually play to certain players strengths rather than throwing them in a system that doesn't work. If we are to even see Nevitt start playing well then he needs to be in a two that is clear to see. I don't think he's completely written yet but he really badly needs a goal.

I agree with 2 up front, one loan striker is never good enough. I thought as above the youngsters are showing some form of true grit. just need another 8 or 9.
I was adamant I was not going to watch the match, BUT I DID, thought their second was a classic

I've been wanting two up front last two games, but still not got my wish...I feel like even if we did get our wish it would be the wrong two, it's just how the Gills roll these days lol...said slightly tongue in cheek that last bit.

Don't think it will happen, Coleman is a other 4-2-3-1 man so we can continue to have Nevitt look isolated and head scratchingly Morgan played incorrectly out wide.

Not keen on Nevitt, came with high hopes and just not convinced. Like several others. Mr Dack for one.
I feel as I have for a few years that the owner, who has the funding is sitting, waiting for us to fold and develop. Mr P S had those thoughts when he bought the club for £1 and never really put much back into the club, hoping to invest in the land the ground is built on.
That is the problem when you are one of the few clubs who own their own ground, there is a massive profit outside of what the club represents.
County beat us fair and square and probably could have scored a few more. They have scored more away goals than the Gills have scored all season.
So we all know what the problem is ,We need scorers, so why after now 4 gaffers have we NOT resolved this problem?
Sadly I feel after 66 years as a supporter our days are numbered.

    1 Gale
    2 Gbode
    3 Morris

2nd half we showed some fight, but Gale & Gbode being our best 2 players because they did the bare minimum we should expect from any player (give 100% effort).

New manager same players same results where is the issue!! We look no better under Coleman than we did under Bonner in my opinion, we had no new manager bounce just more of the same. The deadline day signings are at least fresh faces and should be given a chance, but we need leaders we need players who know the game at this level but we didn't get them and I can't see where the next win comes from. I hope I am wrong.
