I needed a good laugh !......and I'm so happy that I didn't stay home to watch the goal fest in the Champions League. ...... so I decided to take a look in this thread.... and I would have missed Nolan's fantastic shot, late in the game - what was that grass-cutter - at least 40 yards ? - idiot !......... .....Actually, the real idiot is me - for staying at the game until the final whistle - and not just because Gills lost ((( I had a sneaky suspicion of the result - but - you lot would have crucified me if I put it into the Prediction thread. ))) Gills lost to a very average Grimsby side -who- played to their strengths - but - played with maximum effort. The Grimsby players gave no time for Gills to settle ( although too many of the Gills players were so 'settled' that they seemed to have taken root for most of the game. ) Gills players seemed to have no idea how to create anything worthy of an 'adventure' into the opposition half of the pitch - let alone a real attempt at a shot. Nolan's 'effort,' from close to the half-way line was probably borne out of frustration - but- frankly, it was insulting to fans - who had paid good money twice in a few days, to come out in the rain - ( to do my usual 100 mile journey ) - to watch statues ! In truth, Gills' squad isn't a lot 'better' than most other L2 sides... For me, the difference comes when we have moved the ball quickly - been more 'dynamic' - and it's been quite enjoyable to see much more positive action.... Last night was like watching the complete opposite -- even quite late into the game, the ball was played sideways, sideways, sideways, back to Morris - then big lump & lose possession. -- Don't get me wrong - I have no problem with 'possession' football - but that does need for quicker distribution and quicker movement for players to receive the ball ..... I suspect that the only reason why the Grimsby keeper wasn't booked for time wasting (( even before they scored )), was that the referee probably thought that the greatest offenders - wasting their time - were wearing blue shirts....actually - the greatest time-waster last night was me.*** *** it certainly wasn't any time wasted by the Evri courier - who left a parcel dumped on my doorstep (( an electronic item - soaked and ruined )) - and not waiting for Mrs A to answer (( if Evri even bothered to ring our doorbell - Mrs A was unaware of any delivery ! )) - all in all - not a great evening.
Hard to pick anyone from last night a really bad night at the office for all concerned. 1. Little - lots of effort though little real quality 2. Williams - Moved around with more intelligence than most of his colleagues 3. MacKenzie, we missed Hutton terribly as much because Mackenzie is 100% better than Coleman in central midfield, but Robbie still performed better than most. I have know idea how Neviit and Nolan went the distance both were poor, but the biggest disappointment was the manager whose decision to go to the Hawk and go route 1 was a great disappointment, leaving Wyllie and Wakeling on the bench who I think offer something that their defenders may have had more problems with. and this not a pop at Ollie who did his best but they were quite happy to deal with 2 big lumps and did so with relative ease.
I was furious over their goal last night...Jayden Clarke was the closest player to their man that went on to score. The opposition player even looked over his shoulder to see where Jayden was, as soon as the pass was played, Clarke gave a trot and gave up, putting all the work on Max Clark. You're a team, help out! It's working together that makes a team, it was lack of working together the reason we conceded. 1. McKenzie 2. Little 3. Nolan
brb - I was about to 'like' your post - (( totally agree with the sentiments )) - but - then I saw you had chosen Nolan... McKenzie was played out of his best position - and wasn't as effective as v Barrow. Little tried ... a bit - not sure if totally committed - along with the rest of them... ...as for Nolan - anonymous (along with Coleman ) - with Wakeling & Wylie available, I was staggered that Nolan and Coleman lasted so long on the pitch. ..... I know that I haven't made any selection in this thread - but - I'm not very familiar with the Fleetwood players !
Fleetwood players? For me it didn't matter McKenzie's position, he plays where he is told by the manager, much like Hawkins plays where he's told, much like I feel we could make better use of Ogie other than just a defensive role. So I base my selections on how I think they performed for the game, even if a better player could have fullfiled their role, or if they are not suited to the position they play - McKenzie for me gave what I considered a satisfactory effort ie earned his wage. As for Nolan I could have given Ehmer, in fact I nearly did, third place is always the more contentious selection for me, becuase it wasn't the top performer, but sometimes a *** paper width is all that is between them - I nearly didn't select a third place....I nearly didn't select a second place, the only player I was commited to giving my points to was McKenzie. Ogie I love, but I try not to show favouritism and was struggling to give a stand out thing, other than his shot in the first half, that I couldn't confidently place him in there, but I suppose on reflection that could have applied to 2nd and 3rd place. Jayden I fell out of love with last night, when I use to sing his praises, it's football opinions are funny and often change. Clarke will come back next game, if given the chance and probably prove me wrong, good, that's what I want them to do, prove my opinions wrong, because that then means the club does well. Hope that explains.
1,Little covers a lot of ground can't fault his work rate. 2, Williams I thought he was better last night for the 60 minutes he played. 3, Clarke looks the most dangerous going forward good cross for Nevitt effort.
