I did go to the game yesterday, but can't say I was overly impressed. In fact I'd struggle to give you the best three players. It was a good goal by Nichols, and looks even better on twitter playback - but the strikers don't set my world alight. MacDonald showed his usual strength of stamina and guts, then later when Jefferies came on, he breathed new life into the game, to get us pass the winning post. Since the arrival of Brad our new owner, our team has also had new life breathed into it, and the form table dosent lie, but in those infamous words of Martin Allen, I want to smash L2 next season. I don't want just a play-off place, I expect autos, why wouldn't I, we have proved what can be achieved. Pre season we can rebuild or at the very least add to what we have, and let's not forget clubs like Wrexham will be looking also to continue on their work if they achieve NL Champions (although I hope Notts County do personally) - so the standard will need to be high to get a top three place, and we need to improve on what we did yesterday. I'm not going to select a top three, soz my standards are high, and we should have crushed them by more than one yesterday.
brb - ditto what you said... The game was of poor standard (( if winning in style was the objective ))... I think that we can get beyond just claiming that league survival is paramount... By now, barring a few recent 'freak' results, I expect that there are more than two worse teams... Gills have literary nothing to lose by being more aggressive - for 90 minutes... It won't really matter if we lose a few - we're not going to finish very high - nor will be in the bottom two....... Gills have an ideal 6 games left - against 'higher' opposition...We should be looking to play with a certain level of freedom to go forward and really attack these so-called better clubs....These last 6 games provide a great 'pre-season', against meaningful opposition - and games that we can set our stall out for next season. .... as for star player etc, 1. Nichols - apart from his goal, he worked tirelessly 2. Hawkins 3. Hawkins' shirt - how does it not get shredded each week ?
