I'm going to have to criticise Nevitt more often, two in two games since I slagged him off. <laugh>

15' (0-1) Ball forward from Clark, Gbode plays it against a defender and it falls rather nicely for Rowe. He spots Nevitt to his right, plays it back, and the striker produces a really cool finish to find the bottom right corner. #Gills take the lead.

I missed the first 20 minutes but thought we looked very dominant in the first half. Second half you could see that Chesterfield upped their game and we were up against it somewhat. For all the work he does, Joe Gbode is starting to become rather frustrating in terms of his positioning and decision making. He had a golden opportunity to slot one away when Nevitt headed the ball back across the box but Joe turned up far too late.

    1. Sam Gale - His RCB/RB role last night had him dominate their Left winger so much so they had to be dragged off and changed second half. Much more composed and if he continues at this trajectory, he won't be a Gills player much longer.
    2. Max Clark - First half I don't remember him allowing a single cross down his side, really dominant full back performance from Max. Second half was more difficult for him but that was the same for all.
    3. Aaron Rowe - Really good performance from Aaron for his first start since Boxing day. Thought he had the Chesterfield defenders scared as they didn't know how to handle him. Of course he was spent by middle part of second half so if we can keep the lad fit then we have a real threat there.

    1. Nevitt - he had a fair bit to do with his well -taken goal.
    2. Gale -- he should have been No.1 but I'll explain why not.
    3. Max Clark - closely followed by Rowe.

Undoubtedly Gale has been the revelation of the season..... I expect him to (at least) emulate John Egan - maybe even Steve Bruce --- but --
in the previous two games, Sam made a couple of mistakes... I thought he was (( to some degree )), instrumental in two goals before last night -- where, I thought that he could have done more to cut out the cross to Grigg - however, my criticism might seem a little churlish in view of Sam's fantastic progress and contributions in matches of late..... PLEASE - he is not a Fullback - which is not all about the pace that he possesses.

I still have reservations about the retention of several of the current squad - BUT - I have to conceded that, since Coleman, and now Ainsworth, Gills have at least become a little more 'adventurous', and have started to show some of their ability to worry the opposition (( rather than me !! ))...Now we need to use the remaining 5 'dead rubbers' to properly focus on the style of play that will allow for a serious promotion attempt next season -- so -- I would like to see an improvement on the goals tally - perhaps we might then improve on our current record of only one win in the last 22 matches.

Have to say, one of the best games I have seen us play for 2 seasons as a unit. I was talking to Liam Gibson last night ( Harrogate Player ) Could not praise our gaffer enough.
He seems to be trying every possible formation and getting points, so far no defeats, which is brilliant.
Gayle what can I say, I remember his first game and he won a throw-in how proud was he, now look at him. Gbode as well another youngster we need to hold on to.
    Cant pick one player
So The whole team for what was an amazing team effort from start to finish
