1, Nolan quietish first half but came alive in the second excellent solo goal going to an important player this season.
2, Masterson solid as ever until he went off apparently tendinitis in his heel and should not be a problem.
3, Dieng looked good playing further forward until his hamstring injury.

    1. Masterson - made very important blocks and was solid.
    2. J.Williams ( despite only having half a game. ) - played with bundles of energy - helping others to 'up' their game.
    3. McKenzie - shaded it over Little - as we needed to 'hold on' (( until half time )), after the opening goal.

This was a game that nearly went badly wrong... Carlisle should have scored at least 2 in the first half - and completely bossed it.... Gills capitalised on poor shooting by the opponents - and a gifted 2nd (( well taken )) - which changed the dynamics of the match....so - considerable room for improvement - but - I shouldn't complain....

...the last time there was a 'crowd' at Home when we've scored 4 in the league was 31st August 2019 (( 5-0 v Bolton - - who were in administration and fielded 6 youth players. ))

    1. Nolan it was him that put in the cross that led to our opening goal, briliant cross that had their keeper fumbling in thin air. Then scored the crucial third goal, at a time when it was concerning that Carlisle might turn this around.

    2. Dieng great opener after an attempt initially by Rowe I believe, ever persistent threat and was concerning when he pulled up early in the second half. Think he might have been my mom but for that injury.

    3. Wakeling....I really couldn't decide between three, him, Williams or Hutton. Maybe we need to start playing towards the town end more in the second half, if this is how we turn out. Oh and not to forget his debut goal.

Great win, much unexpected, I thought we went into the break very lucky to be one up. This could have so been an all different game, which is a gentle reminder it's all about fine margins - I expected Carlisle to give us a difficult game and they did, I'd have been happy with just a point. Second half was either luck was on our side today or something amazing just happened and I'm taking the latter. Memories of the Sheff Utd opening game under Justin Edinburgh (rip) - this game was nowhere near the class of that day, Dack and Egan to mention a few, but after last season, four goals is absolutely fantastic! Well at least we've proved we can score

I saw one Carlisle fan ranting on twitter after their defeat, I'll say now, I don't think they got too much to worry about.

    1. Masterson , could be the best centre back in the division this season, solid and commanding
    2. Hutton, cool in defence and played some excellent balls, already looking like our right side will be very productive this season with Hutton and ......
    3. Nolan, started well, thought he was a bit of passenger when Carlisle were on top, but had a very good 2nd half capped off with a good goal.

All round a very good win, lots to work on I think Carlisle will be a very good side in this division again, ( I would hazard a guess that they are unlikely to concede 4 too often), and at 1-0 and 2-1 the game was in the balance but good to see the Gills take there chances. Good debuts (2 scoring) and thought all 3 subs had an impact too.

Really enjoyed the game Saturday despite Carlisle probably having the more territory than us for large portions of the game. For the first time in a very long while though I never thought we were out of it, and I appreciate we held the lead from 2 minutes in, even after Carlisle got one back I wasn't that concerned because we looked like we had the attacking intensity (and also ability) to get ourselves more opportunities and ultimately more goals.

For the new boys, Nolan highly impressed me. Probably have to go back to Jordan Graham as being the last wide player we've had that has had a good technical ability and also a true willingness to get forwards quickly. Certainly an upgrade on Mahoney in my opinion. Wakeling I felt did what he could but was bullied a lot by Carlisle's defence. Once he had space to run and carry the ball, he looked very composed and took his goal very well (almost Cody like). Rowe started well but I think got quieter as the game went on, partly due to Carlisle's RB staying very close to him and nullifying his threat. We will definitely see more to come from him. Little I was the least impressed with on the day. I felt first half he gave away the ball too often and his decision making for passes particularly let him down. Saying that though he was excellent in that last 20 minute spell of the second half and perhaps the movement of Jonny Williams allowed him to shine more than perhaps where he was running into similar areas as Dieng.

On the whole I was pleased with the performance, Dieng looked decent being that aerial focal point until he had to be withdrawn. Williams was everywhere and looking to play very positively, you can definitely see how much happier he is in the middle. Max Clark had a very good game at LB. Not the best of days for Ehmer & Hutton but if a bad day culminates in winning by 3 goals then I think most of us will take that all day long.

    1. Nolan
    2. Clark
    3. J. Williams

    Nolan
    Masterson
    Dieng
Could easily of been a few others aswell. McKenzie was very good in midfield and Little always looking forward rather than backwards. Not forgetting Williams who finally scored.
Great start by Gills. Lucky still leading at half time though. Got lucky again beginning of second half with mistake from defender but good finish. When Carlisle scored was little worried but two cracking goals sealed the win. Really pleased with the subs who all played well when they came on
