Piece on Sky showing demolition of buildings at Staplewood preparing for the new academy buildings. Cortese without a tie! Lallana in a hard hat. Good piece.
Cortese has developed the strangest accent...picking up a bit of Sarfhampton. He said that he wants to make Southampton such a great place to work that no player coming through the academy will want to leave.
Just saw that, great piece. Sibley says there'll be interviews with Cortese, Reed and Lallana on SaintsPlayer later. The written versions are already there: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2698768,00.html Almost feels like Saints and Cortese are just getting started! Roll on a bright future! Now let's just get up!
What a fantastic read...building for 25-30 years. Planning properly and not putting everything into one pot. I love being a Saint.
Probably not no. If anyone with an iPhone or decent camera has it they could maybe upload without listing on YouTube so we can see without them getting their arses sued.
I think the fact that Cortese has such a long-term vision should be a comfort to all of us should the unthinkable happen and we don't go up this season (not that it will <cross fingers>). The resources will be put in place to build a side capable of challenging for the top of the Premier League whatever happens this season.
Kris Temple on BBC South Today says that the owners have paid £15m for the new training ground! Anyone worried about the Liebherr's commitment, considering the plans were not as large before his death, I would say it shows good intentions and signals. It's not like buying a player for £15m in the space of 2 days, it's a long-term investment. Great stuff.
ffs cortese out, should of been 150 million! in all seriousness though, my favourite bit of the interview was when nicola was talking about when adkins arrived he loved the current facilities. wonder what he is going to think of the new ones.
Love it, Nigel must be so excited at what it is front of him! As well as a football lover he strikes me as a tech geek who loves technology and the latest sports science stuff and this facility will be amazing. Going to work at a training ground like that in what looks like being a Premier League club will be exciting for Nigel as well as ourselves! Must say though, I liked Les' input: "Sometimes you hear of clubs who put all their finances in one pot and it's a bit of a boom or bust, but we're trying to build something for 20-30 years and that is going to be sustainable."
Also liked that Cortese said that, although we were in a good place after a great season, it would be disrespectful to other teams to talk as if we were already promoted. A class act.
I don't think a hard hat is a great look for the Don. We have heard bits and pieces about the plans and feedback from the cortese dinners, but brilliant to see some action. Positive words from Lallana, he is a player with genuine enthusiasm for the game and for the club
The other two were in suits, but Cortese chose jeans, white shirt and suit jacket. Not up to his usual sartorial elegance. Perhaps when you are top dog you can wear what you like.
As a top dog maybe he should have worn this / / / -------------------------- \ \ \ (pointing to avatar)
