QPR TO WEAR SPECIAL CHARITY SHIRTS ON STAN BOWLES DAY Club to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Society when QPR play host to Rotherham United on Saturday 22nd August … please log in to view this image PUBLISHED 11:30 27th July 2015 by @QPRFC QPR will wear special charity shirts when the R’s play host to Rotherham United at Loftus Road on Saturday 22nd August. Earlier this summer, the club confirmed plans to hold a special matchday dedicated to Stan Bowles, who has recently been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer’s. The date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the day Rangers won 5-1 at reigning Division One champions Derby County – and Stan scored a hat-trick! Amongst other planned activities on ‘Stan Bowles Day’, the R’s home shirts will carry the Alzheimer’s Society logo, kindly and generously donated by our official shirt sponsors, AirAsia. Each match-worn shirt will be signed by the respective player, and auctioned off at the 1975/76 Gala Night Event (more details to follow in due course). Stan’s daughter Tracy told www.qpr.co.uk: “This is a fantastic gesture from AirAsia and we are extremely grateful to everyone at the club for facilitating this. “The level of support we’ve received from QPR, the Trust, the Rangers fans and the wider footballing community at large has been mind-blowing, but what’s just as important is that everyone understands the condition and everything associated with it. “As a family, we’re all really looking forward to the day – and Stan is too.” QPR’s Head of Media & Communications, Ian Taylor, added: “AirAsia and Tony Fernandes, in particular, were really supportive of this idea when the media team approached them. “We’ve had great support from them and the Alzheimer’s Society, as well as the FA and Football League, in making this happen and I’m sure the supporters will be keen to get their hands on the shirts when they go to auction later this season.” Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer's Society, said: “It’s fantastic that Queens Park Rangers is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society to help people with dementia live well. By holding a ‘Stan Bowles Day’ and putting the Alzheimer’s Society logo on their players’ shirts, the club will make a big difference for Stan and his family and raise awareness about a condition which affects so many people. “In the UK alone 850,000 people are living with dementia and the money raised will be channelled into vital support services for those with the condition and their carers.
Great idea, I hope Stan and his family enjoy the day, and the charity makes good money to be spent on research for this dreadful condition
Stan Bowles Day....everyone goes to the bookies before the match and everyone arrives for kick off at one minute to three. That's how it should be done!
Now if everyone gets to have their photograph taken hugging a topless model then count me in for sure.
It sounds good. Hope our team that day make it really great by matching that result from 40 years ago.
Trying to persuade my company to bid big on one of those shirts, preferably the number 10. Which of course would involve me in the great inconvenience of representing them at the Gala dinner......
Let's not beat about the bush. That is quite a ****ish thing to say. You and whoever clicked 'like' on your post is lower than a snakes belly.
999 you're a dick. I have family who are suffering from the same thing. You have to get a sense of humour or curl up and be a miserable sod for the rest of your life. (no disrespect of course)
