There are reports that Chelsea is in discussion with the Basel based Architects who designed and built the Allianz Stadium in Munich and the Olympic stadium in Beijing. The brief is to expand the Bridge to a 60,000 seater stadium, with possibly a first stage of around 50,000. Footpaths and walkways over the railway lines are under consideration. This would be a fantastic move for us if it can be done, and take us to the very highest level in infrastructure. Good luck, hope it can happen.
I do hope it's true. Since losing out on the Battersea project, it has been a little too quiet for my liking. Regardless of the actual final number of seats (54-60k), we have to expand......or move. I do hope these plans are real and aren't scuppered by anyone. The increase in match day revenue will be very important for years to come. Bring on all the...."you won't fill it" statements from other clubs.
It seems every year there's a debate/rumour about enlarging the Bridge! Hammersmith & Fulham council historically put a block on it because of the exodus onto the Fulham Rd, the only road that can take the crowd! It seems that with the attempt to consider a move away from SB they have got nervous about the revenue that would go missing and are now thinking of ways to rise the numbers without offending local residents and " health and safety " issues. Let's hope they give us the green light at long last!
About time. Hope it happens as we have outgrown the Bridge as it is. Will be pleased to stay at SB as it is "home".
Typical behaviour by Councillors who put their own re election above the common good. Revenue loss usually gets their attention. Fulham Council, just like K&C Council, is full of blokes with beards in V neck M&S sweaters and women with very short hair, none of whom could hold down a proper job. Backward looking dullards are the bane of progress in London Councils. I had a 3 year battle with exactly these types to get permission to rebuild my house in Cathcart Road. God knows what it must be like to rebuild a stadium!!
