When we look around the Championship and see the managerial sackings, and those on the brink, we can perhaps be forgiven for feeling quite good, quite happy with our position. We have, in Nigel Pearson, a manager who has rebuilt our team from the ashes of relegation; we have a chairman who (other possible criticism notwithstanding) is very supportive of our manager; and we have a squad of players - young and improving - that the vast majority of fans value. http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/2011/10/opinion-good-things-come-to-those-who-wait/ We are currently in the play-off zone and if we get three points against both Brighton and Watford, we will be starting to look pretty well-placed. Lets hope we get no bad injuries. UTT TFFT
I completely agree with you. We have been very lucky, we have a chairman who has saved us, and a fantastic manager who has built a team from next to nothing. Personally I think that Adam Pearson should be given the freedom of the city for what he has done (twice). On a club level I think we are now ready to push forward and develop into an established premiership club. We have the right senior management to ensure that we develop at the right pace and price, and the right manager to cultivate a team. I look at other clubs and realise just how lucky we are, Leicester have thrown money at the league and are stuttering (and could implode in the future), Leeds have backroom worries, Cardiff are the biggest club in Wales and seem unable to get promoted and have major money worries, Forrest just dont seem to be able to get it right..... This is not a dig at any of these clubs (given where we have been in the past and our farcical running under the old regime), but highlights just how stable we are and what a good job the Allams and Pearsons have done
The FRENCHTICKLER wrote this in the 'Liam Rosenior' thread, yesterday: I think - if it's true (and I hope it is) - we are very lucky to have such a steady hand on the rudder.
I don't get to see matches live but listen on RH. I then watch the games on tigersplayer afterwards. Some of the football played against Cardiff, a good side, was very encouraging. I've detected a change in playing style, it's perhaps not the type of football witnessed at City over the years. OK we've enjoyed the brief magic of Okocha and a great technicain in Geovanni but City have tended to be a counter attacking team over the years, playing long balls and using wingers - Elliot & Jenkinson spring to mind. Now NP has got us playing interchange, neat passing stuff - we are not depending on hoofballs or big target men. This football requires some skill and also patience. We also tend to dominate possession more than we ever did under PB. Last season we had a surprising run of away wins and draws - some of which were fortunate but this season when we've won or drawn, we've generally been the best team.
An excellent post UnaBomber, compared to some of our rivals we are comfortable managerially and financially. I think we are now starting to see NP's worth, he's built a good young team who are impoving all the time. With a bit more experience added to the team we could really go places. In doing this NP has cleared pretty much all the deadwood from the past regime (compare the football we're playing now to the football we were playing under the old PL players this time last year NP knockers) and built a team that is capable of challenging for promotion. I know everyone wants to see more goals and a bit more flair, but we are 6th in the league and 6 games unbeaten, our style of play isn't fantastic but it is getting us results. Whether we'll continue to challenge for promotion over the season remains to be seen, I think we'll know if we're good enough to challenge when we come up against Brighton, West Ham, Southampton and Leicester in the coming weeks. We've already beaten Cardiff, so there's no reason why we can't do well against these teams.
GREAT POST TO KICK THIS THREAD OFF WITH UnaBOMBER. Yes that is not only my belief that you quoted but also what i see and hear. I also think its the Man Utd syndrome that has come with those kids that has had a massive effect. TC this season seams reborn. He must hear what the likes of Chester-Brady-Evans-Stewart-Dudgeon say in the dressing room. Barmby is a legend not just in Hull but in the game generally. Even Pusic in Austria knows about Barms past. Is there any wonder that NP wants Barmby around not only for his sub-impact role but his dressing room and coaching roles as well. There is a growing belief around the game now that the days of the highly paid(unless you are a Messi / Rooney type that is) is drawing to a close. The financial fair play system that Uefa will bring in will sort out many a club nevermind the players concerned. IMO, there is much to much money paid to young players and i for one would like to see a world wide ceiling or cap on wages paid to players under 21. Until that age players should be focussing on improving there whole professenial life in the game and so forth. At the moment its all about money in alot of cases. Hull City during the PL seasons suffered as much as many clubs with money mercenaries. Hence why the new broom and attititude sweeping through the KC and Cottingham has to be lauded by one and all. Well any true Tigers fans at least. Ive said it many times and will say it again. This squad (on pure talent alone) is streets ahead of the 2008 squad. What it lacks - imo - is Ashbee and Windass type players but these do not grow on trees anymore. By getting back the long term injured players fit and hungry will be like new signings anyway and despite what some on here still think and post, I truely beleave that The Allams will fund one or two top notch signings (even loans) to get Hull City back to the PL. The way this league is now developing already Hull City have more than a great chance of promotion. Once NP can get more goals out of the players then we shall be a very hard team to beat full stop. Once we get the Derby home game done with then thats the time to look at the league table. For now though, the league has just begun and this is where the really hard work starts. Brighton next..... Long may the Allams and Pearsons reign over all Hull City Afc matters.
This We had a good hard working squad in 2008 who weren't necessarily the classiest team in the league but hard work and a fantastic team spirit got us there. I believe we have these same qulaities in the present squad, but we're just missing that bit of grit and experience that we had with the likes of Ash, Deano and Wayne Brown. This perhaps explains why draws at Bristol and Donny weren't wins, the team maybe lacked that bit of experience and nouce to see the games out.
those were the words i used on the trips home from bristol and donny to the folks in my car. even say having ian ashbee in the team and those 2 games would have brought us 4 more points. having deano would have got us wins in the blackpool and palace home games and thats another 6 points. Total 10 points lost already. but i dont think that this has been lost on NP and the management. but by getting this addressed by january then PL here we come.
I admire your confidence and have to agree the future is looking bright but there is a lot of football to be played yet! If we are in and around the top 6 come January, then is the time to think we can push on for promotion! Until then I am just going to sit back and enjoy watching this young team develop, which is something I didn't think I would be saying a couple of months ago!
When you look at other clubs around the top six, its clear that stability is a key factor in success. Lets face it when a clubs biggest headlines are about the owners wanting to develop either the existing stadium or move, it cannot be bad. It is a good time to be a Hull City supporter.
Only listen on RH but if what you say is correct and continues then its good news and bodes well for the future. Playing good football and dominating possession will win you lots of games.

Another point; another clean sheet. As Golaccio says (on another thread), just want the strikers to find the goal now! Come on you Tigers! In Nigel we trust!
Good posts on here and I agree with most. There is a feeling that wherever you look on our teamsheet there is emerging talent. That is something I had never fully appreciated before the last few games. We are getting things in place and it's all coming together..............Manager, Coaches, Player Strength in Depth, Owners, Stadium (Hope there is team spirit in there).......these are good times. KEEP IT GOING TIGERS !!!
