In 09-10 we had to wait until the last game of the season for it.

And that was a pretty good season for us!

Definitely possible. We've just taken 12pts from our last 4 games, the spuds only 4pts out of 12.
If current form continues, we'll be ahead of them before the end of March <ok>

I'm not saying we should get ahead of ourselves, nothing worse that posting a thread a la 'Let's all have a giggle' at our rivals like the Spuds did, only for it to blow up in their faces. But we have given ourselves a great chance to overtake them and get the automatic CL spot in 3rd <ok>

Fair play to PISKIE for staying positive throughout all this, the fickleness I have witnessed from some gooners on here is amazing!

I still want Wenger to leave, so i'm not fickle. PISKIE's endless optimism does sometimes get irritating but hey, so far he's being proved right, kudos to him.

I just think the manager, players and fans need to believe that we can go into games with the intention to win them. We proved we can beat anyone, so we know that we can win any game that we play. It sounds cliched, but Wenger is right when he says that players need to have belief - I'm saying that the fans should have that too.

Nothing wrong with pointing out where we need improvements, but I've said all along, even after the 8-2, that we were still good enough for top 4, that the margins in football are fine, and that we've never been that far off.

That's why I never bought into the 'crisis' thinking that some fans have.

Piskie - belief is not all you need- - but it sure helps lately. Call it bottle, up-for-it, will-to-win whatever - but never-say-die will do !!!
If we sort out some issues in the summer we might be real contenders for things.

I'm not saying it's all you need, but it's been the one thing that's been lacking up until now.

The issues that need sorting out are the same ones that have needed sorting out since 2006. Let's hope this is the summer where they finally do get sorted out!
Then we won't need this mad scramble for 4th and a tough qualifying game against the likes of Udinese. Top three every season should be the minimum we're aiming for!

Well look at it this way, if we don't invest significantly we will not be playing CL football by the end of next season. We have been incredibly fortunate this season and it's a one off. Major investment is needed if we are to keep competing at a high level. Not simply spending big, on big name players, but buying wisely. Let's hold thumbs it will happen this summer. For now we have to concentrate on consolidating 4th and hopefully moving above the spuds.

Well of course there are no guarantees. But if we do tackle the deadwood, the pay structure, buying strategically and not panicking,
then we might have a serious go at challenging in all competitions. Having a fit squad for most of the season would also help.....

I would just like to remind you all that when we were 17th in the league I predicted we would still finish above tottenham as they would have a collapse in the latter half of the season.

Things we should learn from this season:

1.Tottenham will always be a 'cup team'
    2. A fully fit RVP is amongst the best players in world football.
    3. Fabregas is a better player than we gave him credit for. We miss his quality in midfield.(god knows how many goals rvp would have got this year had we still had fabregas). We need to add another TOP CLASS creative midfielder.
    4. Walcott is a confidence player. 8 goals and 10 assists make him our second most productive player. Can go from being awful to unplayable as he showed against Spurs. Needs to be 'nurtured', I still feel he will be world class forward.
    5. We would be better off cutting down our large squad and adding 2-3 top class additions this summer.

Well, your prediction is looking a lot more sound than Jayram's one that we'd finish mid table <laugh>

When you were 17th we were bottom and I don't think any Gooners thought we'd finish above you after a couple of games. Still waiting for this collapse, though.
