BT Sports... Suarez, Studge, Sterling & Coutinho Vs Firmino, Mane, Salah & Coutinho ...which is/was better?
I loved the Suarez season but it was all about one man really. This season is a proper quartet, if one or two don't preform, the others do. I find it a very difficult choice but I'd probably go with the current four. Picking the best four, I'd go with Suarez (obviously), Salah, Mane and Coutinho
Suarez carried that lot, he would make any system look great. Coutinho is a better player now than he was then, shame he will be leaving. I would say our current quartet are better
Wait and see how the season pans out, but the teamwork amongst the current lot is way ahead of the other line-up, imo.
I'd agree with this. Suarez as an individual is world class. He dragged players up to him and not just his front partners. You didn't want to be the **** player in his team. I think S maybe I'm wrong you like me wanted at the time to get back to a team that after so long didn't want to rely on one player doing that? The one thing I like about Klopps ideas is that he wants threat to be a team effort, closing down and getting it back quick to be a team effort and defending...the same. I'll criticise that further back he still doesn't have the players to do what he wants I'll worry that we will lose some of our attacking players to "bigger" teams on their performances....but at the mo I can't see why? Offer that 4 performance bonuses to match a barca type pay? They will get paid, and you don't have the worry of pish squad players asking for the same.... so you cut off is it about the money? Then it's up to them if it's about leagues and CL. Fair enough to them if the manager/club doesn't get in the players to support them a la Suarez
For sheer entertainment the current crop, Suarez made the other three look good with his positional play, assists and artistry on the ball making space for the others.
If the 4 of you are truly top players, you might want to stay put? They always say 'it's not the money' and often best players leave because no ambition or other top quality is there. If they know they're good enough to dominate, maybe they'll give us a go, a nice thought if nothing else ! Edit - the current crop btw, Suarez made SSS what it was
Klopp mentioned it when talking about Cout post match, we aren’t relient on one player. And that was only the 4th time this season that 4 have played together! I don’t think you can compare them until they’ve had a chance to continuously play with each other
This is a tough one - those 4 players in 13/14 scored around 70 goals between them that season. Our current lot are on around 46 (however that does include European games against minnows). We’ll have to assess at the end of the season but for now, I will give it to the 13/14 lot simply because of Suarez. The other three were great supporting acts and we shouldn’t underestimate their contributions but Suarez alone was immense. Not only that, they smashed pretty much every team (maybe bar Chelsea?). Our current lot are certainly more evenly balanced and there is no talisman which is great. But imagine if we had Suarez in this set up ...
That team also had a Gerrard that was on form in that deeper role and hendo doing all the running and playing well. This team have hendo who has been pants, and not much else form midfield to be fair!
Gerrard was brilliant at starting attacks from deep, shame he couldn’t defend. Agree on Hendo - he was such a good supporting player. He was so mobile, got into the box and he liked to play quick first time passes. It’s a shame to see him regress so much.
If you're talking entertainment and excitement value then Suarez has to be in any trio/quartet labelled 'the best'. The passion he displayed and the commitment were exemplary. So as mentioned above, for me, it would have to be Suarez, Mané, Salah. Why is Coutinho there if he makes both sets of players anyway? Just as an aside I hope Mané's not becoming a bit of a sulker.
It's a bit of a conundrum. If you leave Firmino out you lose that shape a bit, and the bite (not the sort that Suarez provides). Firmino leads the press and wins the ball back a lot more often than he gets credit for. His occasional poor touch lets him down, but I think he's a vital part of the attack. Sod it, just play 'em all and ditch another defender - it won't make any difference at the back.
Swap Firmino for Suarez and that's the most potent attack in Europe, imo. That's no disrespect to Firmino as he's been excellent, but Suarez is next level. Just imagine... Mane ----- Suarez ----- Salah -------------Coutinho------------ and just let them rotate and do whatever they want.
