Persistent problem in football - the referee takes an eternity to measure back the wall and they promptly encroach when his back is turned. Recent Under 20 World Cup, the referee marked the free kick spot with a squirty can, measured out 10 paces and sprayed another. Brilliant! Are the Premier League going to do it?
This isnt new, it's happened at other tournaments / in other countries for years. The EPL have shown they're happy to adopt the best ideas ie the 4th official showing how many injury time mins there will be, which originated in Italy. Older fans will remember when we had no idea how much injury time there would be, it was almost at the whim of the ref and it was hell.
ah great days, it added to the excitement - now its getting too clinical. human error is what makes the game what it is.
An appalling decision that was. Taking football away from the fans and allowing "Extra Time" board making companies to screw proper fans into the ground. That's when the rot started imo. They should just take the game back to how it was in the 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s (choose the decade you loved the most and think the beautiful game was at its peak).
Foam is used by referees in the MLS in the USA. Certainly speeds up the game. No arguments, jostling, encroachment etc. The only problem is the referees don't always know what 10 yards is. Some think it is around 7 yards while others consider it is about 15 yards.
squirty foam ? and if a player doesn't retreat the full distance the ref should slap a custard pie in his face
No foam. It is the most annoying thing about the MLS. They also encroach all the time on the foam. The foam line is far more of a starting position where they all jump forward towards the free kick than an actually impenetrable wall.
