With 6 games to go it has all bunched up in the race for the Holy Grail that is Champions League football. On paper we have the easiest run in but with our brutal away record since Christmas can we get the 3-4 points needed away from home to go with the must win 3 home games. Can see all the others dropping points so will 12 points from 18 do or will we suffer agony at the death!!

Hmm, I can't help thinking that a bit more of 'to dare is to do' might have got us 3 points today.

  4. We are ahead, and that is all that counts at this moment in time. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow may never happen; it's the here-and-now that counts. Arsenal and the Toon have some difficult fixtures, and we have a better run-in that the Chavs.

I'm not saying we are dead certs for a top 4 finish, but I am saying that we've got to be confident that we can clinch CL footy from the position we are in, relative to all the other sides that stand a chance.

Agreed HIAG. Hopefully Citeh turn over the goons and we are a point ahead. Always thought Sunderland would be a toughy, but what's left is eminently winnable.

It could quite possibly come town to goal difference or the point we got today.

In answer to your question, I would have to say at this moment in time, that 12 points from 18 will possibly not be enough. Granted, we came through today with a point and a clean sheet from what was probably our most difficult game of the run-in, but there will be more twists and turns whcich I hope work out in our favour, but I would feel more comfortable at aiming for 73 points rgather than your projected 71.

When you've followed Spurs for as long as I have, squeaky bum time - as it's now called, is par for the course. It goes with being a Spurs fan, I'm afraid.

Luckly for us, most teams aren't as dirty and negative as Sunderland so I doubt we will encounter the issues we had today, so while its not looking too clever, considering the great position we was in, I think we should just do enough to get champions league football, if not its going to a huge letdown!

im sure alot of us were saying that if we could get a draw at Sunderland then we would be happy...i think ill be thinking in a squeaky way if we dont win on Monday...then i would say we have a worry...4 points out of 6 would be good...then we have a chance of giving ourselves a great boost and getting to the cup final...that should galvanise us for the remaining 5 games of the league.

    or so i hope.

I actually think Newcastle have the best run-in. We have 3 very winnable fixtures coming up followed by Chelsea who will be alot more nervous about losing than we would be. Newcastle have nothing to lose in this race so should be feared more than most.

  13. There are no easy games in this league, as Harry is fond of telling us.

You should have 3 points in the bag on Monday, I do not see Norwich getting anything from WHL even if we play as well as we did yesterday in the 2nd half.

Our boys try hard and can play some very good stuff but it hasn't been done for a full 90 minutes this season (with the exception of Swansea away) so Spurs will get the lions share of the ball and I have no doubt will make it count.

We had 71% possession yesterday and only created one or two good chances.

No more pissing around now, go for 442 from the start of games and play more direct football rather than pissing around with it because there aren't going to many teams out of those left that won't be delighted with a draw against us.

I know, I watched it but wished I hadn't, I hate 0-0 games. Really was a pretty dull game for a neutral <laugh>

It was a pretty uninspiring spectacle for anybody, not just neutrals. As has been said, we maybe should have gone out there with a more positive team selection, and gone for broke. We certainly can't afford to lose any more games. Obviously, much will depend on other results, but we will have to win all our remaining home games, and, at least, draw our remaining away games, to be in with a good chance of a CL place, IMO.

.... but that's the dilemma isn't it? You want a more positive team selection, to go for broke, but also say that we can't afford to lose any more games. Point is that the more you go for broke the more you risk it. People on here will criticise Harry for going for broke if we lose, and also criticise him for being too negative if we get a draw. Fact is that we dominated that game yesterday and could have won it. Those are the sort of games that ManU get results in NOT because of some magic formula but for reasons like the Fergy factor... that the early challenges on our guys would have got bookings rather than no punishment, leaving them wary for the rest of the match about the same tactic, plus one or more of the pens would probably have been given at Old T.
