So with more players than expected departing than are coming in this January window at the moment, surely we will have a busy few days at Gillingham fc should others i.e. jackman, flitney and strevens depart also. because should that be the case i make that only 16 senior players to go with the handful of youngsters at the club should we need to call on them in this promotion target season...and that's playing with fire with so many Tuesday & Saturday games coming up for the rest of the season and that's why i'm sure Gillingham fc will act this week...SURELY ! NELSON FORECAST FISH LEGGE BARRETT DAVIES MARTIN FRAMPTON ? MCKAIN not ready or involved LEE ALLEN WHELPDALE GREGORY DACK not involved WESTON MILLER not involved KEDWELL BIRCHALL MCDONALD BURTON and with flitney, strevens, jackman on there way out now...we need quality players and i would say three or four now looking at it.
I think we need 2 players however if you look at it we have got rid of all or depth which can be important to have if there is illness or injury so I can see why you say three or four.
If the club is remotely serious about promotion then an immediate rethink is needed. Jackman is a "must stay" player better than any of the midfield yesterday and an insurance policy in case of injury to Martin or Fish between now and May. Second rethink needs to be about Fltney who is a thoroughly reliable pair of hands compared to the ticking time bomb that is (or at least may be) Forecast. So long as Nelson stays fit the problem is theoretical but plan Bs need to be ready for Gills situation. Again this is an insurance policy but one with a very low cost. Somebody needs to inject a bit of common sense into what is happening.
Sorry, think you will find out Jackman has gone to. Might have dropped down a league but set the challenge to get promoted.
I think Allen is doing the ight thing here, the squad is / was too big and the wage would hinder the opportunity to bring in "better" players to the club. Yes Jackman may be a fans favourite, but he isn't in the mamagers plan and I suspect he is one of the clubs higher earners, so it makes sense for the club to let him go. I doubt the Cody deal would have been able to go ahead if not for such a cull of deadwood from the squad. You may or may no agree with the players the manager has let go but lets not forget that he has turned a team of "also rans" over the past two seasons into title contenders.
I am as much as the next fan happy to be sitting in second place with autos still looking promising, however, caution, this was mainly built back up to the middle of November, since then we have lost our seven point lead on second place. Not that being Champions is the priority here. Now look at our home form... please log in to view this image This is not a criticism but a factual observation. What is a criticism on my part, I have at least now blamed the manager not the players for two recent poor home results on his selections, Saturday being the most recent. Now he is either going to turn out to be a genius or someone that has completely lost the plot. So in fairness he has another 19 games to secure this situation but he certainly needs to change that home form. We cannot keep relying on what we built up at the beginning of the season, we need to look at the way forward, which has always been my argument with the younger players that we are transferring out, being in the squad.
Jackman was player of the year last year, a year we didn't go up and stuggled all season to stay in the bottom of the playoff spaces. Is he a phenomenal player or were our eyes blinded by him being 'the best of a bad bunch' In MA I trust.
brb I do understand where you are coming from but we are onl halfway through the season and we are still in the hunt for an automatic promotion place, it is not that we have tumbled down the table during the run of poor form. We were always going to have a run of poor form and we are just in the middle of it currently, it is like looking at the ceiling of the Sistine chapel, halfway way through and saying "Oi, Michaelango! This is rubbish whats that beardy bloke pointing at?" The problem is that so many fans got swept along with the good form of the first third of the season and niavely expected it to carry on all season. The only reason we were 7 points clear at a point was that Port Vale went through a period of poor form. We can't judge Allen on half a season, and until it is mathematically impossible that we can't go up I will have faith in the manager how put us in this position, lets not forget a win in tuesday and we will be top again. And if the manager decides to let a player go, I won't judge until the end of the season, even if the player is someone I really really really like!!
