have we got to have a 25 man squad again and we can get loans in after the window closes. just reading Warnock's book said we struggled a lot with injuries. i cant remember. i just think the bigger the squad the better really
There is no limit imposed on squad size, apart from affordability. Obviously too many players and you're breeding bitterness and dissatisfaction in those who will not get a game, so it is a tricky art to get the right number and balance.
It's a 25/10 man squad as confirmed above. As far as loans go, once the transfer window closes you can't sign anybody for a week (unless you end up with only 1 keeper fit). After that week, until the 4th Thursday in November you can sign players based in the English League setup on emergency loans. They last between 28 days and 93 days, although as you did with Tommy Smith before it is possible to split the 93 days to ensure you don't miss them for any more games than is necessary. The only conditions on the splitting is that each section of the loan has to be a minimum of 28 days, and each section has to start before the loan deadline (that November date). You cannot sign foreign based players on emergency loans, Celtic count as foreign, Cardiff/Swansea don't. In terms of recalling loans, outside of the proper transfer windows you can't recall any long term loans even if there is a clause, and if you send someone out on emergency loan you can't recall them in the first 28 days of their loan (or section of loan if they've split it as well). This is due to be the last season that emergency loans are allowed by the way.
In the Premiership it's 25 and 8 homegrown (to sort of mirror the UEFA 25 with 4 homegrown at that specific club and another 4 in the country), so there's an extra 2 slots reserved for homegrown players in the Championship. I can't think of a club that's actually been affected by it in the Championship yet, it very rarely even affects PL sides what with them signing 12 year old foreigners who then count as homegrown once they're old enough, and them signing younger players.
So when does this come into force. Surely if its being discussed now, it cant be implemented until next season at the earliest ??
2010/11 season the 25 man squad rule came into force, so you actually got promoted in the first season they applied. http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...ees-to-10-homegrown-players-rule-6478295.html
