hopefully with promotion, what size squad do you think we need? at the mo its about 36 players but with some that will leave hopefully. if we say the basic is each position covered twice(22) afew multi position players(3) and some youth(7) thats 32 it seems that we may have to add about 8 players for a strong squad
with the new signings we have a squad of 39. With promotion at least 6 of these will go (someone please shoot tommy forcast ffs)some serious spending will need to happen in the summer
Got to laugh at all this promotion stuff! We can't even string together a decent run in this division currently and on the form guide of the last 10 games were relegation candidates.
Why? We haven't been outside the top 2 all season and we have got most of our players back from injury and suspension. We have got 2 of the best strikers in the league and we played well enough in the 2nd half last night to win and if we had a half competent referee we would have done
Yes granted mate and nothing wrong with self belief at all. But I don't like being left with egg on my face saying how big our squad should be when we get promoted. There are some sides in this division who are looking much more a threat than us right now and until we start playing as we did during the first few months I will be thinking a playoff place would just about do. I hope we turn the corner but I have been a saints fan long enough to know what can happen (ok)
A maximum of 25 players can be registered, and at least 8 of those must have come through an English youth system. Under 21s don't need to be registered. So yeah I don't think we'll be wanting 40 players.
for example, Norwich 27 players. Swansea 37 players. I think we have 23 players (not including those I think will leave, and youth). In simple terms 2 players for every position, so shopping needed? not saying we are Man U with 42 players, but generally promoted teams struggle around this time of year because of lack of depth- just like we have been going through, and yes I seriously think we will get promoted
Right fine I'll work this one out for you: Davis, Richardson, Harding, Schneiderlin, Fonte, Lambert, Cork, Barnard, Guly, Sharp, Butterfield, Fox, Hammond, Jaidi, Martin, Forte, Chaplow, Lee, Lallana, Bialkowski, Connolly, Dickson, Holmes, Seaborne, Hooiveld, Forecast, De Ridder, Puncheon. That's 28 players who are over 21 years of age and therefore must be registered to play in the Premier League. You can only register 25, so we will actually need to lose 3. I don't think Forte, Dickson or Forecast will make it to next season so that's that taken care of. However, if we want to sign any players we would need to drop more players. Perhaps Butterfield, Connolly, Barnard or Holmes.
Good post Joe. I agree with the players who would need to go if and I will repeat with a big IF we get promoted this season. (prove me wrong please saints)
are clubs actually following the 25 player rule ? spurs squad is large (as you would expect with twitchy in charge) and only a few are home grown, same with pool . manu squad is big but alot home grown
stand corrected, dont know the law. but if you have your limit on foreign players but you want to buy another, can you send one out on load or is he still registered to you. trying to get my head sround this law , but dont think it will effect us in the slightest
Players are only registered if you want them to be registered, so a player sent out on long-term loan would almost certainly be removed.
Quick question. Not exactly relevant but along the same sort of lines as this thread.. How many strikers do West Ham have now??
10 and a half. Maynard, Vaz Te, Cole, Carew, Baldock, Piquionne, Montano, Sears, Nouble and Hall. Ravel Morrison can also play up front but was brought up to play in the attacking midfield role.
Out of that list.. Fonte, Hooiveld, Martin, Fox, Puncheon, Cork, Schneiderlin, Chaplow, Lallana, Guly, Sharp, Lee and Lambert are the only one's I'd have full confidence in being able to step up to the challenge of playing Premiership football week in week out. Davis, Richardson, Bialkowski, Hamomond and De Ridder would be brilliant cover, whilst Harding will be kept as back up too (much to my disappointment) That's 19 players who I think will be in our 25 man squad if and when we get there - leaving 6 spaces vacant for new players. Barnard, Butterfield, Jaidi, Dickson, Forte, Seaborne won't make it and will probably be sold in the summer and I also don't think Connolly or Holmes will be offered new contracts unfortunately.
Cheers LFCH! That is crazy! Why as a striker would you go to West Ham....money money money I wonder what their first choice strikers would be now? Cole and Maynard possibly
