Like several others, I think Brucey gets it right more often than not, but was disappointed we didn't play a stronger team last night. I think 'all' we wanted as fans was to progress to the groups and get some more European nights, and if in the group matches Brucey had then rotated the squad to rest players and give others game time, we would all have accepted that. But surely this early in the season, we could have played a stronger team to get us over the line into the groups. I do also think we've all been thinking we need a big squad to cover European matches - and now we don't. I remember when the Allams took over and sacked Barmby that Ehab made the comment that there were several players who hadn't even smelled the grass in the previous season. I wonder if they might be thinking the same again in the next few months, and not agree to more coming in without some going out.
I don't think we'll be short of offers over the next few days to be honest. We have 7 players who can play CB, Davies, Chester, Fig, Dawson, McShane, Bruce & Maguire. So really we could do will a couple to leave, probably Fig and Bruce. In midfield, if we sign another midfielder, that must make Meyler surplus to requirements, and last night's performance can't of helped. I'd also expect Boyd to leave and possibly Sagbo too Just throwing this out there, but does anyone think that Aluko might leave by Monday? Brady looked back to his best last night and with Hernandez incoming and we still have Ince, Sone's game time may be limited
I never understand how people make judgments like this based on a single performance, last week Aluko was MotM and Brady was terrible. This week Brady was MotM and Aluko was terrible, so now Brady's great and we should get rid of Aluko?
Not at all, I just think Aluko's behind in the pecking order plus there's his injury record to consider. Personally, I think that Brady is more consistent than Aluko, so if someone was to leave, I'd rather it be him.
Brady plays left back/left wing back, Aluko plays second striker and we've barely got any strikers left, I don't see the logic.
I was thinking last night that after building a squad with numbers enough to compete on all fronts, we now have too many players, but I've chaned my mind. We should keep them all and give the domestic cups a proper go. It's the only way Brucey can redeem himself from the catastrophe he orchestrated over two legs v Lokeren. He has to get a back in Europe else he cannot be given a new contract and can **** off at the end of the season.
Didn't Bruce admit that Brady's best position was higher up playing as a 2nd striker. You say we don't have many strikers left but we have Sagbo, Jelavic and soon Hernandez, along with Ince, Brady and Aluko who can all play in that 2nd striker role. If we were to sign Salah too by some miracle, where's the room for Aluko? He'd struggle to make the bench
SB said last night that nobody will be leaving and quite correct imo. OK so the EL is gone but it is still a long season and we have 2 domestic cups to go with still. We have a great coc draw @ wba and a chance to progress further. With 6 PL teams already gone and 5 more that WILL go in round 3 who is to say that we cannot have another good cup run. Whilst the PL is No.1 by far we need the squad we have plus 2 more. Maybe being out of europe will be blessing. For sure it is not good from a wonga point of view. A top 10 PL finish is worth far more than a long EL run. Well done and Good Luck to Lokeren and their fans.
What utter nonsense ^^^^^ this. Even if you are taking the urine. The only thing that went wrong against Lokeren was ""not getting an away goal"" ffs.
I think we'll see a centre back leave - either Bruce or McShane on a permanent or Maguire on loan because 7 in to 3 just doesn't go. Can also see Boydy leaving. I just can't see where he'll get a game this season, he's not a wing back or centre midfielder and we don't play with out and out wingers very often and if and when we do we've got Brady, Quinn, Ince, Elmo & Aluko all ahead of him in the pecking order.
