Leaving the No.9 shirt vacant must surely mean we are going to bring in a marquee signing ? I mean, who goes into a season with no No.9 ?
Without any scientific reasoning, or anything other than a random stab in the dark, that suggests to me that RvW is likely to be off on loan again, together with Andreu and O'Neil. VOO maybe too, but his old squad number was 39 I think, so that might not make a difference.
We're looking to sign a striker, and even if RvW stays he's not going to be the striker we look to for most of the season, so I guess it makes sense to leave 9 free. Turner didn't start last season as 26 did he?

Can't see a good reason for number 16 to be left blank either - do any of the young'uns have a particular preference for that number? Otherwise that might indicate another player definitely expected to slot in there
Honesy can't see it happening, even if he does need to lose a stone. I suppose could loan him to you as a sort of fat camp for a few months.
