Squad number 26

I know most people will have no interest in this but I'm looking at City's squad numbers (for reasons I can't be arsed to go into) and we seem to have every number up to 33, but no one with number 26. Just wondering cos it's doing my head in, is there some youngster or other with that number that I'm forgetting? Or someone who previously had it this season? Just wondering if anyone knows this because I can't find it online and I bet if there is one, someone on here will know or will have noticed at some point.

Townsend, Jahraldo-Martin, Henderson, Fletcher all have numbers (none of them 26) but I can't see any record of one for Cracknell or Wilson. I believe Stewart wore 25 when he played in the League Cup and McLean wore 21 (could be wrong on that one though?).

 

Was it left out of respect for Arfur Crown?

 

Was that the number of Jak before he left?

 

Eldin was number 16.

I would hazard a guess it's Cracknell.

Who had it last season? If it's not someone I should have known, Cracknell was on the bench for a game at some point (was that last season or the season before?) and I don't remember us having a ridiculously high squad number in recent years (except Oli with 44) so it might be worth checking a programme from late in the season.

 

I think Cracknell was 35 last season and Wilson 36.

I believe 26 was Sonny Bradley up until he left (last summer?).

 

26 is just quite a **** number, maybe not wanted it?

Number don't really mean much though do they?

 

They usually are, but Elmo seems to have the 27 when it's available. Stewart had the same number at Charlton as when he first joined us. Cairney went to Blackburn and got his first squad number from his time with us as his number there. Fryatt also seems to like the 12.

 

Maybe it's a superstition? It's twice 13 afterall.

Is number 26 being reserved for the return of one Michael Turner ? He used to wear no.6 when he was here.

 

Purely and simply, this is the reason. It's stupid but it is the reason.

 

It' might go to that Kebbie lad if he breaks into the first team at some point.
