Ryan Allsop - Previously joined us in league 2 on loan from Bournemouth for the 15-16 season, making 18 appearances. I remember being impressed at the time and was elated when we signed him permanently for the 18-19 season. He seemed alright if not fantastic with the step up the league, however due to injuries we had a few emergency loan signings in goal and this showed up Allsops weaknesses. Namely his command of the box and organisation at the back (admittedly not helped by the defenders in front of him). This season however he has matured and whilst still not totally commanding at the back, himself with the better defenders have this season have been mostly solid. Even keeping Stockdale on the bench after his signature.
Still only 27 he has arguably his best years ahead of him and could be a solid player for us for many years in leagues 1 or 2. He will need to improve rapidly if he is to make it at a higher level.

    Thoughts?

    Good idea CW

I'm assuming we will go through the squad so I have set up a thread to index each one. As new threads are added for other squad members I'll add them to the index

I've used the Prediction League (Yellow) for this purpose as we don't have a Prediction league

So; from the Index we can select any team member to view the analysis and also by selecting the yellow thread prefix it will display all the threads with a yellow prefix

I can undo this if it's not what was intended

The one problem Allsop has is getting booked for time wasting

That did seem to come up most weeks yes, but ‘gamesmanship’ is very much part of our play at the moment. Is he the best permanent keeper we have had since Ingram? Or am I missing someone?

I think Jamal Blackman was far better, even though he was capable of a brainstorm at times

Oh yeah he was far better but only on loan (we have had some great loan keepers) not many permanent keepers that I can recall.

Didn’t really get this going as was hit hard by covid and what not.
Let’s start again with Allsop. Is he championship material, has he improved enough for the championship? Tricky to say, he does like to time waste (a Wycombe trait) and a good shot stopper, who can forget the saves from the corners. However I would like to see Stockdale play, he has experience and proven at this level.

Thoughts? Happy with Allsop, maybe Stockdale is the man or do we need someone else.

Let's put it this way, with Allsop in the opposite teams goal & JJ taking corners I would fancy our chances of getting a goal
