Some of you may have seen this already. For those who haven't, it is REQUIRED reading http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/rob-atkinson/spurs-whats-the-point_b_3331171.html?utm_hp_ref=uk
An alliance of Chelsea and a bitter Leeds fan. I didn't think I'd live that long! Seriously though, forgetting the names of the teams involved, do you really admire what he says. He is effectively writing off 3/4 of all Prem teams saying that being a title winner is the only point in being a football club. In today's financial environment (football, not society) it is very unlikely that the Prem won't be won by one of Chelsea, City or Utd for the forseeable future, with Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool (and a few others) scrapping over 4th place. Therefore the question is what is the point of the league. I get why you and Arsenal would enjoy the article, but underneath it is profoundly depressing, surely.
I stopped taking it seriously when he referred to the 'salford franchise'. Another Leeds fan with a chip on his shoulder about United. I hate Spurs as much as the next bloke but he bemoans their lack of a title since the 60's, well Leeds have only one 1 in 40 odd years and have been outside the top flight for a long time now. For my money, Spurs are now a more relevant club than Leeds. Nothing wrong with being the 5th best club in the country, better than being an average side in the championship. So the article should perhaps look at what is the point of having history if you have not got a future aka Leeds ATM. The fact I've now defended Spurs makes me hate the author of that article even more!!
Gotta say I agree. Whilst the article is pretty funny, he really is talking crap. Spurs are doing the best they can in todays modern game, with how financial it has all become. They have a relatively small wage bill compared to other teams below them (QPR, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle). His article basically says What is the point of any club other than Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal. Without the other 16 teams below them there is no football league and therefore no football. Plus he openly admits in his comment responses that he wrote the article purely because Arsenal are his second team and he therefore hates Spurs. Totally ****ty journalism right there. In closing, the guy is a bell end
Leeds always have had the biggest chip on their shoulders. As if the world owes them something, some of the best conspiracy theories I've ever read have been construed by Leeds fans. I haven't read the article yet but will do shortly.
"The youngest of those fans who can remember the last Spurs team to be champions will be coming up for retirement any time now" Had me in tears that bit
You've hit the nail on the head. Leeds is a massive ONE CLUB city so he's being unfair to Spurs that have Chelsea, Arsenal and even West Ham in the same city/catchment area. It's the arrogance of fans like that which is what gives fans if "big clubs" a bad name. The idea that any club that doesn't win X, Y or Z is pointless. Spurs may be pointless to him, but they aren't pointless to the 36,000 that go to WHL every other week and the legions of Spurs fans up and down the country. You could argue they aren't even pointless to fans of rival London clubs. Being brutally honest, Spurs are one of London's biggest clubs and a fixture that most London clubs relish.
Don't waste your time mate is is cringeworthy. It's just a cheap dig at Spurs......, oh hold on. READ IT.
