I represent a community group started by supporters of Hull City AFC called City Till We Die, named after one of our regular songs. No To Hull Tigers is the slogan of our current campaign. Our current owner Dr Assem Allam wants to change our name from Hull City AFC to Hull Tigers because he thinks City is a âlousy identityâ, âirrelevantâ and âcommonâ. A number of fan groups have united to oppose the proposed name change. As part of the campaign we sing âCity Till I Dieâ at 19 minutes 4 seconds into our matches. 19:04 was chosen because Hull City AFC was formed in 1904. During our two matches over the coming week it would be appreciated if you would give us a little respect at 19 minutes. Full details of our campaign can be found at: http://www.citytillwedie.com/ https://twitter.com/NoToHullTigers https://www.facebook.com/NoToHullTigers If you support our right to keep our name please leave us a message and/or like our Facebook page. Thank you.
Good luck, I hope your stand for community, tradition wins in the end. Football has sold it;s soul , so we have a world of egotistical , pompous , tyrants running the game with all the compassion and ethics of a national utility company.
Only if you promise to be loud the rest of the game.... I think we may be suffering from a few supporters nodding off of late. Seriously though, good luck with this. I personaly think the name "City" is very effective at claiming a place when there is a bigger team in residence ie Villa or Manu, and sounds as though you have the city behind you. However as top dogs, maybe it would be better commercially (especially with the new US audiences and the way they name their teams) to change in this way, much like Cardiff (a change I also agreed with as a nautral as when I think of wales I think dragon and red). But obviously if this is what the majority of fans want then good luck.
If any Bluebirds see this, prepare to batten down the hatches. I believe the point is that Swansea play in red and Cardiff in blue, and you mess with tradition at your peril. Look how unhappy we were with a little red in the Mansion badge several years back!
" Look how unhappy we were with a little red in the Mansion badge several years back! " I was peed off with the all white strip for all home games and kit clashes last season, as disrespectful to St Nicholsons' UEFA tradition (though after this summer I am quite open to us never wearing it again) .
I quite liked the Mansion badge, even moreso the money that came with it. oh and the Thomson one and wasn't bothered by the red seeing as we had red in our badge n all. I didn't realise Swansea typically wore red though, thought it was just last seasons kit. Which by the way Home and Away were awsome for them last year!
Well, good luck to you, Obadiah. I guess I'm in favor of tradition, so I'm on your side. "Common" certainly does describe the nickname "Tigers," it has to be said. It's got to be in the top three or five team nicknames. To be honest, though, I kind of like your (or your enemy's) tiger, as it looks like he's just smoked a big spliff, or maybe is eyeing a particularly delectable Tiger bitch.
