Tottenham yesterday turned down a £22million bid from Chelsea for midfielder Luka Modric, according to Sky Sports The Croatian playmaker is highly sought-after since establishing himself as one of the Premier League's top creative talents. His excellent performances since he arrived at White Hart Lane in 2008, and particularly his form over the last season, have generated interest from the Blues and champions Manchester United. Chelsea have made the first move for the 25-year-old by lodging the £22 million bid yesterday. The bid was turned down by Tottenham, but the Blues have not lost interest and will reportedly come back with an improved bid. Despite not currently having a manager in place, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to begin his summer investment in rebuilding the squad. Spurs have outlined their intention to keep all their star players at the club despite losing their Champions League spot. Manager Harry Redknapp went out of his way to make it clear that he did not want Modric to be sold. He said: "If we sell Luka we are just a selling club basically." But the Croatia international has refused to Modric to rule out leaving White Hart Lane this summer.
