Footballing gods couldn’t have us enjoying things for too much longer.

There has to be more to it than that. I've long held our physio team in deep suspicion and nothing seems to have improved despite the fact that we're only playing once a week. Injuries picked up in training sessions happen but if they happen too frequently, there needs to be some sort of analysis into our methods and the medical staff's judgement.

I don’t think we’ve got more than the average out at the moment to be honest. Looking around at most other clubs and there’s about 3-5 players missing.

We have Perisic, Bentancur, Solomon, Johnson and Gil out. With Maddison and Son seemingly nursing niggles.

It’s obviously not ideal but I’d say it’s just part and parcel. More so now that we’re presumably having more intensive training sessions considering our style of play is a lot more aggressive than it’s been over the last 4 years.

Gil is back training and there was a video of him working fully with the team today, with the ball. Assuming he’s getting closer.

And he didn't have it in the close season because...?
Getting very sick of players doing this ****.
How many players did we have playing in spite being injured last season? Sonny, Lloris, Kulusevski, Romero, Dier, Sessegnon, Skipp and Hojbjerg all certainly did at various points, because apparently Conte thinks squad management is done the same as the SNES era of PES where you can run the same xi every single match

What is the rationale ?? Country before club ??
If so, then the country can incur the costs to
a club of any injury prolonged.
Depends if he knew there was an opening for first-choice CF going in the near future or not

If he knew that he might be leading the line for us this season, while he was stupid to delay surgery you can see the logic of doing so
If he didn't know, on the other hand, it's straight up dumb

Injured players still have to report in, so it doesn't necessarily mean he has a clean bill of health, merely the swelling has gone down enough for the club doctors to see what they're dealing with

Even if he is ready to go in 2-3 weeks it's wise not to try and get him back in the team immediately, given there is an argument that the reason Udogie was so rash the other night was because we rushed him back in spite him doing his ankle ligaments a week or so prior

No sense in rushing VdV back at all, unless it was something somehow very minor, which I doubt it was from how he went off the pitch. With the international break coming up we should really be targeting the 26th for him, which is near enough 3 weeks.

Edit: but the fact he’s in training clothes, with no visible strapping or bandages or support, imply it might be towards the minor end. Gives me confidence we might see him at the end of the month, or at least against City, though really we have to wait for Ange’s presser later this week to get the lowdown.

I would automatically decide he is not available
until the new year, and select match squads
on that basis. Any game before then that he
safely returns for, will then be a bonus.

Surgery is the least favourite option, especially to a young player, because the repair forms scar tissue which is never as flexible as normal tissue and is prone to further injuries. Really bad news when you consider that VdV could lose pace which has been one of his major assets.
