Earlier this week the boys got together to film 3 videos for tracks from the loooooong awaited new album...

...from a distance, they continue to wear well. I had no idea that Will Taylor, the new drummer was that tall! Captain's nearly my height, so he must be 6' 6", at least...which is why he suffers from the tall person's curse....his trousers don't fit...<laugh>

A really great song. Like many, I've wondered what got thrown off the bridge before Billie Joe McAllister followed it...so, today I looked it up.

Nobody knows...which is probably how it should be....given that Bobbie Gentry's disappearance from the music industry itself remains an enigma. This is the best article that I could find...

I understood she just got pissed with producers and record companies and the seedy business that a young woman had to face to make records.
A great talent that we have all missed out on.

A couple of years ago I picked up her first and second albums at a car bootie for £4, her 1st album Ode to Billie Joe the cover was toast and the record had seen better days but the 2nd was good condition when I played it I could hear why , nowhere as good as the 1st

I always put this song in the same category as Ode to Billie Joe , both terrific country story songs

It's always been inextricably linked with this in my head...

...not sure why, maybe the really sparse sound and the named titles...and they're both fabulous songs.

    Addendum:

The next song played on Youtube was this...

...which my step-mother suggested that we played at my father's long delayed cremation. He was a heavy drinker throughout his life...but not that ****ing bad! <laugh>

That is spooky I was going to post the same song as it immediately came to mind but a phone call distracted me, we are about the same age and I'm sure the songs of that type set our minds wondering as the songs were simple but the lyrics so vivid , others that come to mind are Cher Gypsies Tramps and Thieves ,The Son of Hickory Hollers Tramp by OC Smith and Papa Was a Rolling Stone The Temptations

    Some righteous songs there.

I love The Temptations, especially the psychedelic and more socially engaged stuff. I adore the album version of Papa Was a Rolling Stone...at 11 minutes plus, it's still too short. It features as the intro to my favourite film of the last decade, The Nice Guys. If you haven't see it, you MUST...
