    Lawro takes on the Vaccines

"Arni says he became a Spurs supporter by "osmosis" when a friend started taking him to games after he moved to London from Iceland.

"I love everything about the Spurs squad but it feels like this season is a little bit on hold," he explained.

"I am happy if we stay in the top four but the main thing is that we keep the core of this team together for when we move into our new stadium - then it is going to be incredible."

Justin says he has similar reasons for choosing United.

"My family supported Southampton and I didn't want to support the same team as them," he explained. "I was five, and United were the only other team I had heard of.

"I was lucky enough to start following them when their fortunes had just started to turn - I was 11 when they won the treble in 1999.

"I am a big Mourinho fan and I am also a big fan of being back in the top four. City are uncatchable this year and I know United are getting a bit of flak for the way they are playing, but I am enjoying being back in the race and back in the Champions League places. I am optimistic for next year."

John Crace (Guardian columnist and long-term Spurs fan):

    Wednesday
It ended as it so often does. In heartbreak. Having dominated much of the game at Wembley and taken a half-time lead, Spurs lost concentration for a four-minute spell after the break and were knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus. Though I was bitterly disappointed by the result, I did take some masochistic pleasure in the nature of the performance. Over the many years I’ve been supporting Spurs, one of their traits I’ve most come to value is that they so often let you down. Their disappointments mirror my own and somehow make me feel better about myself. They do my failing for me. I’m not sure I could quite cope with supporting a team who regularly lift trophies. Not only would I start taking success for granted, it would also make me feel inadequate. The loss to Juve was classic Spurs: first the hope, as Tottenham appeared capable of swatting aside the Italian champions, then the crushing sense of defeat. After several years of watching Spurs play some of the best football I have ever seen, it was as if normal service had been – albeit temporarily – resumed. And I’m sure Sunday’s long trek down to the south coast to watch them play Bournemouth in the Premier League will be all the sweeter for it.

I never knew that's what Ossie was short for. He writes well for an Argie, and it's nice to see him still taking an interest in English football, even if he does highlight the sorry state of modern football.

God, showing my ignorance there. I thought it was the name of a Manchester pop group which the Gallaghers were in.

I presume that is where the journo is based, or he wouldn't have mentioned a long trek, unless he telecommutes from Inverness.

Not as boring as your way too long signature.
My reason for posting this thread is obviously way too subtle for your tiny brain.
Did Chazz send you to troll?

As the Guardian is based in London why would he be in Manchester? Of course he could be anywhere in these days of keeping in touch by electronic wizardry but why assume Manchester? Or didn't you realise the Manchester Guardian had relocated half a century ago?
