Spurs defender left frustrated at being priced out of Swansea or QPR transfer by Dan Kilpatrick - January 2, 2015 4:00 am please log in to view this image Levy up to his old tricks but it would be be in everyone’s interests to sell Naughton this month. Kyle Naughton is one of the most likely players to leave Tottenham this month. Kyle Walker’s return to fitness, Vlad Chiriches’ emergence as a decent full back and DeAndre Yedlin’s arrival mean Naughton, 26, is now arguably Spurs’ fourth choice right back and he has not played in the league since November. Naughton said at the end of last season that he wanted to be playing regularly and that’s not going to happen at Spurs, so it would make sense for player and club if we sell him for a smallish fee this month. However, Daniel Levy isn’t fond of selling players for small fees and the chairman’s £5m asking price is currently too high for Naughton’s admirers, Swansea and QPR, according to the Mirror. A loan move is still possible, says the tabloid, but neither club is willing to meet Tottenham’s demands, which has apparently left the defender frustrated. The Mirror is not a reliable source (just look at Lukas Podolski’s recent comments for proof of that) but it’s bound to get a few things right occasionally and this sounds like it could be true. Levy is notorious for demanding high fees for players and has, in the past, preferred to leave players to collect their wages and not play, rather than sell for under his valuation (Heurelho Gomes, for example). Hopefully, a deal can be reached for Naughton though. The former Sheffield United man is a hard-working pro but he’s not good enough for Tottenham, who now boast plenty of better options at right back.
I've generally liked Isla at right back: he works very hard and, especially, is good going forward. Over and above Nedum Onuoha who is better at CB anyway, we might need cover at RB but Naughton can't be that, not for £5 million. Leicester City have a good RB who would provide us with cover: chap by the name of Danny Simpson....
Spot on Rodney. Should never have let Danny go. He was the right sort, committed to the club and quality. I don't think he's very happy at the foot of the table with the Foxes. Bringing him back would be a delight, but I don't hold out much hope.
I agree, although there could be some scope to play Isla as right midfield to provide genuine width and some quality crosses. Naughton is blunder prone (moreso than the oft slated Traore). Since the article lists Spurs preferred right backs, can we have Eric Dier who is clearly fifth choice and not even worth mentioning...
