Good Result for us last night the draw against Chelsea, for Spurs a defeat could have changed things. It means that Arsenal will know that if they beat Wigan they will almost be guaranteed Champions league football next season, what an incentive to get a result at home. This will help us massively if they do get the 3 points. Spurs though still have hope and they play Sunderland yet, so will be going all out to try and put pressure on Arsenal. If Spurs manage a result against Sunderland, Newcastle have to play Arsenal on the last day. Chelsea have to play Villa away a victory would seal Champions League football for them too, again a big incentive to get a result. On a side note I see that Matinez is one of the favorites for the Everton job, hopefully Everton will be in touch and he will have his head turned a bit by their offer, which would effect the performances by Wigan. You never know.
We are all clutching at every possible straw aren't we? You have added a few more straws Kemp and hopefully between us all we will have enough to cling on to. Arsenal are looking quite central to things now and I still rue our loss at the Emirates when we were conned out of all 3 points ultimately.
It's just good that the teams that the bottom clubs are playing still have their heads in the game. If they were playing teams like Fulham or West Brom then they would be more likely to get a result. I also have Zero confidence that we will be able get a result!
Strange, that's the first thought that came into my mind when I saw this thread. Clutching at straws. That's what this season has become.
I need plenty of straws as I have no confidence in us at all. It's hard not to clutch at straws when you have seen the performances we have put in over the last part of the season.
more straws than a stack of hay. we're desperate need the team to give us something to cheer about rather than relying on other results
A little nervy, Drunky? Also, a Chelsea win over Villa on Saturday would mean that City would be safe if we get a win on Sunday. Playing each other, only one of Wigan or Villa would be able to reach 41 points, even if Wigan were to beat Arsenal. Just thought we needed another straw for the stack!
I think it pretty much boils down to: -Win and we survive -Draw and we stand a fair chance -Lose and we're down
I´m sorry but do we need yet one more thread explaining just why we´re going to fail, and how little faith you all have, the last few day´s results have done much to help lighten the mood and lift the spirits, even carrabuh was sounding optimistic, so please don´t go and shoot everyone down again. You talk about Hughton draining the players for confidence before they´ve even got out of bed, but are you lot really any better, this is hardly going to lift them is it? Believe, or if that´s too difficult, at least try and believe................................please.
Chill out RBF, It is a semi positive thread that our rivals have tough games, therefore giving us a good chance.
Obviously your weren't at the Villa game RBF, so much positive noise from our supporters that it actually hurt your ears, that is where it counts, not on these forums. All that noise, cheering, clapping, singing came to nothing as we got another inept performance. WE TRIED OUR HARDEST TO LIFT THEM!!!!! I don't know what more we can do?????
I am trying to believe, RBF, and I assume everyone else is. But if I look into my heart, I cannot say that I believe we will survive. We have been awful in 2013, you can't deny that. At least because I live in Vietnam my negativity has no chance of transmitting itself to the players. But, if I am honest, I think we are going down and, also to be honest, I think we deserve to.
I wasn't very confident about staying up, but Wigan losing to Swansea has given me a little bit more hope. Don't really care if we deserve to go down or not, just want us to play in the best league next season.
I am in two minds about Hughton. He was only my third choice and a lot of the football has been dire to watch. On the other hand he has most likely kept us up with a squad that was probably amongst the weakest three in the division. The other two sides on 38 points should have done much better. Also,on balance,I think that we can quite justifiably point to games where we have been done out of points by officials, notably Arsenal and West Ham.With the four points that we should have had there we would now be on 42 and safely in eleventh place.I can't really think of any balancing fixtures apart from home to Saints where we got a spot kick that was saved.
