Aaron Lennon is the newest name on the list of wingers linked with a move to Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with a series of widemen and the Tottenham player is now a key target. They are preparing a £20 million bid to prise the England international away from White Hart Lane.

Manager Kenny Dalglish is still on the lookout for creative talent, and has a preference for signing British players. He has already signed Jordan Henderson from Sunderland and is strongly linked with Aston Villa's Stewart Downing.

Lennon is next on the checklist once the Downing deal goes through as Dalglish seeks ammunition for his £58 million strikeforce of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp does not want to sell Lennon, but might be prepared to let him go to fund his own transfer moves rather than lose Luka Modric or Gareth Bale.

If I were 'arry i'd bite Kennys hand off for £20m - I personally think he's worth about half that. Then again he is yet to reach his peak

I really hope this isn't true.

We need players that can cross the ball, and Lennon is one of the worst around. Only thing he has is pace.

    Far too inconsistent for me.
Honestly though, who is linking us with these players all the time?
So far, because we're rebuilding and appear to have a bit of dosh, journos are linking us with anyone with a pulse.
If they mention everybody then they can say "told you so" with the one or two that come off and conveniently forget the three hundred that don't.
I hate the close season. I'd rather just wait and see who we get rather than speculate all the time.

Is there a miserable bastard smiley?

I think it is lazy journos with this one. Liverpool want young wingers, Spurs reveal they need to sell to buy, the story rights itself really.

I think KK is looking for versitile players, Lennon can only really play as a "true" winger. £20m for him? Not a chance, would rather have Nzogbia for half that who is verstile. Reckon you will get Adam and Stewart by end of week, and a couple of cheap foriegn wingers to give strength in depth

Spurs are not gonna let Lennon go unless its stupid money, and stupid mpney for Lennon is 20m+

Also, I think we are nearing the point where any more new players is going to give more problems than benefits, if Kenny has too many new players one season is never going to be enough to sort out who's best at what and where and whith who.
I would rather see some coonsolidation first, get what we have playing well and build on it. Buying in lots and then sorting it all out can lead to a lot of waste, Arsenal had had at least a whole team of potentials leave more than once because it didn't work out, remember Reyes and co, The Beast? I remember arsenal fans going on about him after the cup games against Liverpool, where is he? lol So lets slow down and take stock, too many new players in the last 4 years to have anything solid going, we'll not win the prem adding 5 new players to your first team every season.

Lennon though a decent addition would be too expensive imo.

    I agree with this.
Changing teams wholesale is a huge gamble. What we had last year played well enough under Kenny. I believe we should be looking to strengthen in two or three key areas. Any other signings should really just be designed to improve the squad in the long term.

I can almost practically guarantee you that Levy/Harry will not let Lennon leave unless it is for £30 million plus.

Lennon was hit and miss last season, and most of us Spurs fans believe it's because he's still recovering from his injury of the season before. Having said that, he showed flashed of his old self, so there is hope that he'll continue to improve. Whilst we have that hope, there is no way we will be selling him. We are a team that likes to play with pace and width on our wings, and we currently have no obvious replacement for him.

I have mixed feelings on Lennon, on one hand he would give our side a well needed injection of pace but what often lets him down is his final ball in to the box which at times can be poor but i would still rather him than downing if I'm honest. But even if this turns out to be true i very much doubt that spurs would sell to us at this moment in time with us having finished so close to each other in the league last season.

KK and DC must really be enjoying all of this noise about possible interest/offers/etc. The media are really giving them a great cloak under which to consider and work upon securing their targets. It also helps flush out possibilities that may not have appeared open at the end of the season. Not every inquiry will lead to a bid let alone negotiations. But with Liverpool's name being linked with 'interests' and 'talks' it keeps both players, clubs and agents on their toes i.e. play too coy/push too hard and Liverpool appear to have alternatives in the wings. This all helps in the psychological battle before any deal can be struck.

In a summer were clubs are expected to spend 'big' to strengthen their squad, all the noise helps Liverpool as they are not desperate (even if in relality they are talking to the club or agent of a player they do want) and will pay the highest price that can be extracted.

So let's hear more of Downing will hand in transfer request to move to Liverpool (that may help with any matta negotiations) or Adam will walk to Anfield, etc etc.

Many of us used to say in rafa we trust. Well now's the time to place your faith in KK and DC to bring in the talent that we need and NOT buy just for the sake of a name.`

Houllier gave us solidity and some trophies and the treble, Rafa added to that and made us dangerous gave us our 5th CL and added a lot of belief to the club and fans, under him we really did expect:) And now Kenny and Co are continuing that good work.

If only we had had a manager that would have slapped the spice boys around and got the most out of them, we had a crackin team with fowler ect and should have done better than we did in those years.

I think it's media bull****. The papers just seem to be linking young English players with us and hoping that they get some right.

I think we would all prefer Mata and hopefully some negotiations are being had in private.

Could we do a bit of bargaining with Spurs. How about sending Joe Cole in part exchange and giving Spurs £14 million in cash. This could be a possibility for a number of reasons.
1.Joe Cole would be happy to return to London and would be even happier to link up with his mentor Harry.
2.Harry adores Joe Cole and rues missing out on him last year.
3.I reckon Harry would do business with Kenny seeing as they have a friendship that is 45 years long since a 15 year old Kenny was a West Ham trialist.
