According to Forbes http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17769654 I believe we're something like 11th in the world according to income as well (Deloitte index) Unfortunately there are 4 in England ahead of us, and effectively 5 with City. That's the power of the Prem, but it means it's very difficult for us to use our income and brand to regularly win trophies/get CL. Teams with far less income and 'brand value' consistently win domestic honours and/or reach European semi-finals. We haven't made a European semi-final for nearly 30 years now. Sad situation.
As I posted the other day, our value in recent lists has been like this: 2010: $375m 2011: $412m 2012: $564m Yet, even though our value has steadily risen, our placing remains the same - so I suppose the new stadium will have something to do with changing that. On the other hand, let's take a look at the value in the same period of a certain club whose fans like to bang on about how "big" they are... 2010: $822m 2011: $552m 2012: $619m
I read somewhere last year that we are 11th or so,so we are a big club and I never disputed it. We are not the biggest but so what?
Arsenal are worth more but Liverpool have more trophies, including 5 'European Cups' to Arsenal's zero. For me, Liverpool are bigger than Arsenal, and 2nd only to Utd, but I could see how others might not agree with that.
We're not the biggest club, but to be 11th biggest in the world in terms of wealth/income, is quite an achievement from those humble beginnings in 1882.
Forgive me Dona,of course we are, stupid of me. I feel that we are a powder keg waiting to ignite. All we need is the right boss who doesn't get involved with tax fraud etc and who can motivate players and a good striker or two and we would be up there instead of all this uncertainty that we have now.
These figures get worse and worse for us. We need a new stadium and CL football again badly. We'll rocket up if we get both. Don't Spurs always float around 10th-15th on these lists?
We seem to have been at 11th despite our value increasing year-on-year, but if it continues we will jump a few places. Not into the clubs worth a billion quid, but it's better to improve organically instead of at the whims of a rich benefactor.
11th and all with a 36K stadium and only 1 season of CL exposure, imagine where our club will go if we can get regular CL football and when the stadium is built.... the only way is even higher up.
What gets me is how Schalke are valued so highly. On the one hand reaching the CL semis would explain it, but look at their last three league finishes: 2008-9: 8 2009-10: 2 2010-11: 14
Ah, I thought there was something I was missing. The friendlies they play abroad during the winter break may also top up the coffers. As I brought up Schalke, this letter to The Times deserves posting...
