Transfer gossip: Portsmouth join Glasgow Rangers, Stoke and Sunderland in race for Oldham defender George Edmundson.

please log in to view this image

Oldham defender George Edmundson is the latest player to be linked with a move to Pompey.
According to the Shields Gazette, the 21-year-old 6' 3" centre-half is interesting Blues boss Kenny Jackett, despite a reported price tag of £450,000.

But it’s not just Pompey who have been credited with a move for a player with 79 Football League appearances under his belt.

Some sources state Glasgow Rangers are leading the chase for his signature, with the Scottish Sun reporting that he has already enjoyed a VIP trip north of the border to see the set-up at Steven Gerrard’s outfit.

Meanwhile, Sunderland, Stoke, Hull, Preston and Fleetwood are also apparently watching with interest.

Havant & Waterlooville boss Paul Doswell to try for Adam May loan move from Portsmouth.

please log in to view this image

Hawks boss Paul Doswell revealed he could enquire about a loan move for Adam May next season – even though he’d expect it to be futile.
The midfielder has been on the periphery of things at Pompey this campaign.

After a spell on loan at National League side Aldershot before Christmas, May has made just four appearances for the Blues since returning – with none coming in League One.

May worked under Doswell during the 2015-16 season when on loan at Sutton United.

In League Two, Lincoln City pair Bruno Andrade and Ellis Chapman are attracting interest from higher-league clubs.

Lincolnshire Live reports Aston Villa and Portsmouth are keen on Andrade, who joined the club from non-league Boreham Wood at the beginning of the campaign.

I recall that Pompey looked at him last Summer, but never pursued matters at the time. Former QPR youth player, still only 25 years of age, 5' 9" in height, and he scored 10 goals in 42 matches for Lincoln City last season. Might be worth a punt....

    Dion Donohue to leave Portsmouth.

please log in to view this image

The Blues have decided against activating a 12-month option to extend the midfielder’s Fratton Park stay.

It means Donohue will next month depart upon the expiry of his existing two-year deal.

Kenny Jackett had been keen to retain the talented 25-year-old, yet ultimately the Welshman’s persistent injury problems forced the manager’s hand.

Donohue featured just 13 appearances this season, the last of which was a substitute outing against Scunthorpe in March.

He is currently unavailable for Thursday’s League One play-off semi-final second leg with Sunderland through a groin complaint.

Signed by Jackett from Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee in August 2017, Donohue demonstrated his versatility during two Fratton Park seasons.

Primarily a midfielder, he largely served the Blues at left-back, adjusting impressively to finish the 2017-18 campaign strongly.

He was earmarked for his favoured central-midfield role this season, yet a succession of illness and injury problems hampered his availability.

Donohue netted a maiden Pompey goal upon his first-team comeback at Crawley in the Checkatrade Trophy in October, proving to be the match winner.

Yet, after re-establishing himself in the first-team as a midfielder for four-successive matches, once again injury intervened.

Memorably, it was Donohue’s wonderful pass which created Andre Green’s dramatic winner at Norwich in January’s FA Cup encounter.

However, he would make just eight more appearances during the remainder of the campaign.

Bristol Rovers' Tom Lockyer, left, with Jamal Lowe.

Bristol Rovers defender Tom Lockyer revealed League One sides who will be vying for promotion next season are chasing his signature.
Championship outfits including Nottingham Forest, are also in the race to land the highly-touted talent as he leaves Pompey’s League One rivals.

Lockyer revealed he now has to weigh up whether to opt for a campaign bidding for third-tier glory or a move to a higher level, where the prospect of success will diminish.

The 24-year-old will be a free agent after ending an eight-year association with the Gas, where he’s made 238 appearances.

Pompey look certain to be searching for a successor to Matt Clarke this summer, with a host of sides keen on landing the centre-back.

Kenny Jackett has made is clear he’s looking to strengthen in that area regardless of what happens to Clarke.

Lockyer certainly fits the bill, falling into the right age bracket and available without paying a transfer fee.

The Welsh international explained he’s currently undecided on who his next club will be.

At 5' 11" in height, he is not the tallest of defenders, but he is very experienced, and in our favour, he knows Lee Brown !!

Another centre half available on a free transfer is 6' 5", 27 year old left sided defender Ryan Tafazolli of Peterborough United.

Bearing in mind that he is left sided, he would be a great replacement for Matt Clarke.

Portsmouth keeper Petar Durin features for Croatia

Petar Durin featured for Croatia under-18s earlier today.
The Pompey Academy keeper played for the full 90 minutes in his country’s 1-1 draw with Czech Republic in the Slovakia Cup.

Croatia broke the deadlock early on but Czech Republic equalised when Durin was beaten by a penalty late in the game.

The 18-year-old will be hoping to win another cap when Croatia take on Ukraine on Thursday.

Durin arrived at Fratton Park from Italian side Atalanta for an undisclosed fee last summer.

He made 11 appearances for Mark Kelly’s young Blues, while he was named on the bench for Kenny Jackett’s side’s 2-0 Checkatrade Trophy win at Southend in January.

Durin also had a brief spell on loan at Bognor.

Pompey are being linked with 25 year old 6'3" MK Dons striker Chuks Aneke who is a free agent. The former Arsenal youngster scored 19 goals last season, helping MKD win promotion from Division 2.

Following last summer's signing of young winger Eoin Teggart from Cliftonville, Pompey have snapped up two talented young Northern Irish prospects from Portadown. 17 year old central midfielder Gerard Stanley, and 16 year old striker Harry Anderson.

Hopefully, two more decent young prospects for the future !!

Pompey have been linked with a move for 22 year old Cork City defender Sean McLoughlin.
According to the Irish Independent, ‘a queue’ of Football League sides are chasing the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international.

It’s reported the Rebel Army are set to lose the central defender.

Championship outfit Preston are said to have eyed up a move for McLoughlin in January but were put off by the 250,000 euros price tag.

But with the centre-back out of contract at the end of the League of Ireland season in November, that figure will likely decrease.

Along with North End, Pompey have apparently been running the rule over McLoughlin, who has made 22 appearances for Cork this term.

Boss Kenny Jackett is targeting a central defender this summer with Jack Whatmough on the treatment table with a knee injury until the new year.

Pompey have built up a decent relationship with Cork.

They played a pre-season friendly at Turner’s Cross last summer, while striker Dan Smith had a loan at the Irish outfit.

Jackett dipped into the Eire market 12 months ago to purchase Ronan Curtis from Derry City.

The Blues also looked at Kieran Sadlier at Cork before he moved to Doncaster Rovers.

Dan Butler: Peterborough United sign Newport County defender

please log in to view this image

League One club Peterborough United have signed defender Dan Butler after he turned down a contract extension with Newport County.

The 24-year-old ex-Pompey defender made 160 appearances in three years for the Exiles.

"This move is everything that I have been working towards," said Butler.

"I am looking forward to working with Darren Ferguson and I cannot wait to get started. I feel like this move will allow me to grow as a player and continue to improve."

County manager Michael Flynn added: "I wish Dan all the very best at Peterborough.

"He has been a fantastic servant to Newport County AFC for three years now and has earned this move to the league above."

PORTSMOUTH IN TRANSFER TUSSLE WITH DONCASTER TO SIGN 27-YEAR-OLD.

Portsmouth and Doncaster are two of the clubs looking to sign former Blackburn Rovers defender Paul Downing, as reported by the Doncaster Free Press.

Rovers narrowly missed out on a place in the play-off final, going down on penalties against Charlton after a spirited fight back at the Valley. Grant McCann is resigned to losing key players,
such as captain Tommy Rowe, but is also keen on adding experience to his ranks. Defender Andy Butler has also left the club having refused to take a pay cut in the summer, subsequently joining Scunthorpe United in League Two.

Downing spent time on loan at the Keepmoat last season and impressed in his 20 outings, making him a prime target this summer. However, another vanquished play-off semi-finalist, Portsmouth, are also thought to be in the hunt.

They lost 1-0 on aggregate to Sunderland in an uninspiring pair of matches and look resigned to losing Matt Clarke this summer. Kenny Jackett is believed to want Downing to cover the loss of the 23-year-old.

Downing proved himself to be a competent and accomplished defender in League One last season and is sure to attract significant interest.
McCann has spoken of how keen he is to conclude a deal, but simply having played there last season might not be enough for the 27-year-old.

He’ll have to assess if the club he joins matches his ambition. It’s likely he’ll want to move to whichever outfit look most likely to give him a swift return to second-tier football.

Ipswich Town and Portsmouth join race for midfielder scouted by Bristol City.

Motherwell's Alex Rodriguez Gorrin and Glasgow Rangers' Scott Arfield battle for the ball.

Ipswich Town and Portsmouth are both interested in Motherwell central midfielder Alejandro Rodriguez Gorrin.

Football Insider claim that the two clubs are chasing the 6' 1" Spaniard, who was linked with Bristol City earlier this summer.

The 25-year-old is available on a free transfer, with his contract at Motherwell set to expire this summer, despite an impressive season at Fir Park.

Ar reported by Bristol Live, he has the highest number of interceptions per 90 minutes in Europe this season, with an average of 9.75 a game.

The Robins were linked with Gorrin in April, but there is plenty of interest in his signature, with Millwall, Wigan and Blackburn Rovers also said to be monitoring the situation.

Gorrin started his career at hometown club Tenerife before moving to Sunderland's youth system in 2009.

He spent five years in the Black Cats' academy but was released in 2014 and moved to New Zealand to join Wellington Pheonix.

In June the same year, he joined Motherwell, and he made 25 appearances for the Scottish club this season.

According to "Football Insider", Kenny Jackett's side, alongside Rotherham, Coventry and Hibernian, have identified Tranmere Rovers forward Connor Jennings as a transfer target. Still has one year remaining on his existing contract, the 27 year old striker/midfielder is 6' in height, and apparently is extremely pacy.

REPORTS have emerged linking Swindon Town with a season-loan loan move for Portsmouth midfielder Adam May.

BBC Wiltshire have this morning tweeted the 21-year-old is expected to link up with Swindon, following yesterday’s confirmation that full back Tyler Reid had joined on a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Swansea.

May made three first-team appearances for Pompey last season following a stint in the National League with Aldershot.

In all competitions, he scored three goals from 17 appearances for Aldershot – including a match-winning brace against Dover in September.

Newcastle midfielder Dan Barlaser on Pompey's radar - but Wigan and Preston also keen.

please log in to view this image

Pompey have Newcastle midfielder Dan Barlaser on their radar. It is understood the 22-year-old is being monitored by Kenny Jackett this summer.

However, the Blues face stiff face competition from Paul Cook’s Wigan, while fellow Championship side Preston are also reportedly interested.

Barlaser spent last season at Accrington Stanley and had an impressive loan spell.

The 22-year-old scored three times in 45 appearances as John Coleman’s side finished 14th in League One.

He was one of Stanley’s stand-out performers, with his strike against Southend being awarded the club’s goal of the season.

Barlaser has returned to St James’ Park, where his contract expires in June 2020.

Newcastle are thought to be ready to offer the former England and Turkey youth international a new deal, so a loan switch would be the most likely option if he were to leave Toon again.

Following the release of Dion Donohue and with Adam May set to spend next season at Swindon, Jackett might feel he’s a body light in the centre of midfield.

The partnership of Tom Naylor and Ben Close was his preferred engine room in his 4-2-3-1 system during the second half of last term, after Ben Thompson was recalled by Millwall.

January arrivals Bryn Morris and Andy Cannon, from Shrewsbury and Rochdale respectively, are Jackett’s other options.

The boss has previously earmarked Cannon for the number-10 role, though.

Last summer, the Blues almost signed Sean Longstaff from Newcastle. The midfielder was close to moving to Fratton Park on loan but manager Rafa Benitez pulled the plug at the last minute.

Shrewsbury defender James Bolton expected to complete Portsmouth free transfer.

please log in to view this image

According to the Shropshire Star newspaper, the 24-year-old is out of contract at Montgomery Waters Meadow and poised to join the League One big-hitters.

The 5' 11" right-back has spent two years at Shrewsbury, making 85 appearances in all competitions.

He has undergone a medical at Portsmouth and the move is expected to be rubber-stamped imminently.

Bolton netted the winner as Town won at Fratton Park the season before last. He also scored FA Cup goals at boyhood club Stoke and Wolves for Sam Ricketts’ side.

The exit comes as a blow for Ricketts and Town fans. Ninety-five per cent of supporters who voted in the Shropshire Star's end of season survey selected Bolton as the out-of-contract player they wished to retain.

Bolton becomes the third player in a year to move from Shropshire to Pompey after Craig MacGillivray and Bryn Morris.

Ricketts made his desire to keep Bolton at Shrewsbury known but the former Stoke youngster, who joined from Gateshead in 2017, is set to head south.

The Town boss said earlier in the summer that he hoped his vision for the Montgomery Waters Meadow club would help tie down Bolton.

He said: “He does like it here and rightly so. I think he’s done well, he enjoys it, he sees what we’re trying to do. He’s been a big part of that.

“I think he’s a player that can play a few positions as well which is really important.

"But he’s a player with a real desire to improve which is what we want here.

“Hopefully we can get something agreed that all parties are happy with and we can retain his services.”

Bolton is believed to have found the prospect of playing for a club with Pompey's fanbase difficult to turn down.

Rumours galore abound, connecting us with possible moves for the following three players:

22 year old Ryan Delaney of Rochdale, who can play at centre back or left back, and is 6' 5" in height. Born in Eire.

27 year old Blackpool centre back Curtis Tilt, who is a 6' 3" defender. Ipswich apparently are also keen to sign him.

Portsmouth are interested in signing former Bournemouth wide man Marc Pugh, although no deal for the player is close.
That’s according to BBC reporter Andrew Moon, who confirmed on Twitter that the 32-year-old is someone that Kenny Jackett is looking at ahead of a potential promotion push next season.

I’ve learnt that #Pompey are looking at ex-#afcb winger Marc Pugh, however he is one of a number of potential targets and no potential deal is imminent.”

The Cherries recently confirmed that Pugh would be leaving the club after nine years this summer so he is on a free transfer as he searches for a new club. He scored 45 goals in 274 games for them.
However, that decision was not a surprise, with Eddie Howe sending the ex-Hereford man out on loan to Hull for the second half of last season, where he scored three goals in 14 league appearances and he impressed overall.

James Bolton has signed a 3 year contract !!
please log in to view this image

Pompey have signed right-back James Bolton on a three-year deal.

The 24-year-old will officially become a Blues player on July 1 when his contract with Shrewsbury expires.

Assistant manager Joe Gallen said: “He’s someone we’ve been tracking and has always played well against us over the past couple of seasons.

“James is solid, a dependable full-back and a positive character – he’s going to be a good addition to our squad.

“You need to defend, but also be able to provide service to the attacking players and we believe he can do both.

“He was part of a Shrewsbury side that narrowly missed out on promotion, so he’s played at the top end of this division, which is where we expect to be next season.

“We think we can improve him and that he can progress at this club, but he already brings a lot to the table.”

He made a total of 85 appearances for the Shropshire outfit and netted the winning goal in their League One victory at Fratton Park in January 2018.
