No, not the BBC one this weekend (we all know the cyclist will win it AGAIN, yawn)...this is the really important question...Who is your favourite Saint of 2012? Apologies if I missed your favourite but I can only name 15 in the poll..I've limited it to people that have been at the club all year. My top 5 are.. 1 SKD...the man is a model professional and clearly loves the club and is a bonafide Saints legend, he is worth his weight in gold just for his positive influence on the dressing room. 2 Nicola Cortese...he is the real driving force behind our revival and as long as he is in charge of running the club we will have a successful team, there are exciting times ahead! 3 Nigel Adkins...his appointment was a stroke of genius from Les Reed and NC...his sheer enthusiasm is so infectious to us fans, so imagine what it must do to the players! He has proved that nice guys DO win. 4 Rickie Lambert...His goalscoring achievements are extraordinary and add to that his all round contribution to the team, he has been a massive player for us. 5 Tough to leave Adam and Morgan out but I think that Jack Cork has been the heartbeat of the side this last year and if he carries on playing as he is, then an England call might not be too far off.
he's my top 5: 1. Nigel Adkins. I think the constant chanting of "There's only one Nigel Adkins" sum's him up perfectly. There is no one like him! Guided us to back to back promotions. Has to be no.1 2. Rickie. Without his goals, particularly last season, we would not be where we are today. Always puts 100% in as well. 3. Adam Lallana. Been at the club since he was 12, deserves to be captain. Very loyal to the club. 4. Kelvin Davis. Again, very loyal to the club. Has been a great servant to the club. Thoroughly deserves his chance in PL with Saints. 5. Jose Fonte. What he did on Saturday when Guly was booed on sums up the leader that he is on the pitch. Didn't put Cortese in my top 5 because I don't have a clue what his personality is like!
Nigel for me got the team playing positive and the right way. Remained professional even when the media circus was making up stories of his so called upcoming sacking. And he will lead us to safety .
If it is personality that has done most for Saints it has to be the one and only Nigel Adkins. Almost everything else has occurred because of how he is carrying out Nicola's dream. Our good players have been even better because of Nigel, when they lose, spirits are kept up by Nigel, and when we win, feet are kept on the ground by Nigel. If the question was who has done most for Saints, it could be argued that it should be Nicola Cortese (financed by Markus).
I think that Tommy Forcast has been a rock of stability through all that has happened over the past four years. He should be commended for this. Gillingham boss Martin Allen said a couple of weeks ago, "Tommy is a good goalkeeper who has trained very hard and is getting better and better. "He’s popular with the players in the dressing room – he has been patient and deserves an opportunity to go and do his stuff. "Tommy is a great pro, a great lad and he will play next Saturday." http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonl...spx?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
The irrepressible Mr Nigel Adkins wins this. We'd already seen him steer us to success with a steady hand on the tiller. This season we've seen him stand up under fire, and come through smiling.
I wonder how many other clubs' fans would choose the manager as their favourite personality? I bet not many in the Prem!
Not many would chant his name when the team was embedded at the bottom. The fear of losing him was frightening. Some fans may have followed him to his next club
