Hi all, As an attempt to get away from the WUMs on the football forums I thought I'd devise a tough sporting questions thread on here. The first user to get all 5 questions correct wins. Ok, here gos; 1) In which sport will you find a 'wigwam', 'splashguard' and 'pine cone twirl'? 2) In 1948 Ben Hogan won the PGA championship. Hogan also played another sport professionally; which sport? 3) Who is the youngest ever Olympion to have won an individual medal and what did he/she compete in? 4) Which ex Real Madrid player won the most throphies for the club during his tenure? 5) In which year did the NBA expand the league from 17 teams to 18? Bonus points if you can name which team joined. Good luck. I will announce any correct answers as they come through.
I couldn't answer any of these without Googling - and I'm sure someone will do that soon. Give it a whirl. 1. Canooing 2. American Football 3. Dunno 4. Di Stefano 5. 1997
My Google-fu is weak today. If we're counting the Winter Olympics, the youngest individual Gold medallist is Tara Lipinski from the USA who won the Ladies' Singles figure skating in 1998 aged 15. I'm buggered if I can find anyone younger with a silver or bronze medal. The youngest named person to do it as part of a team was 10 year old Dimitrios_Loundras who won bronze as part of the Greek parallel bars team in 1896. There is also a report of an unnamed 7 year old Dutch boy who got a medal for being a cox in the 1920 rowing event.
During the 1980 Olympics a 10 year old girl named Maya Cockdroppov representing the Soviet Union won gold in gymnastics. Following complaints lead by the USA a gender test was carried out resulting in the medal being withdrawn as she turned out to be Ivor Kickabollckov a Shot Putter from Minsk who had recently had a sex change operation.
