As we were when Chris Sutton was prised away from us all those years ago - it's easy to understand and share their pain. http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spor...16097?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=TweetDeck
Michael Bailey doing a Q and A session on the Pink'un right now about RvW http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/q-and-a
I asked His reply Well, having seen almost a whole season of Chris Hughton's intransigence and reluctance to 'experiment' formation-wise, I'd suggest it will very much be RVW having to adapt to the Hughton way. (I won't call it the Norwich way, because we all know it isn't) We shall see - and I hope sincerely that I'm made to eat my words
Let's hope that you are 'made to eat your words', but I'm not 'holding my breath' on that happening any time soon, unless CH has a change of heart and lets the team try to win games rather than not lose them!! !!!!
Cromer, I think we'll see something halfway between those extremes. I think most of us expect a serious revamp to our front line for next season, but the same formation. I could easily see Snodgrass being the only player from this years front 4 to be first choice next season, with a new left winger (or 2) and an attacking midfielder inbound. Knowing that we've got a serious talent in RvW, I think all attacking signings will be picked to complement him. We won't play exactly like Sporting have this season, but we'll try and bring in players around him to suit his style. How much support the DM's will be allowed to provide compared to Sporting's style I don't know, but I'd expect at least 2 signings aimed at getting the most from him.
agree with this, especially the attacking midfielder point. for me, this position is top of my shopping list for next season if we stay up. We are crying out for someone who can run with the ball and pick out creative passes. This won't come cheap, but i hope we can get someone half decent from abroad. Mousa Dembele was bought by Fulham from AZ Alkmaar for a few million and look how good he is now
This attacking midfielder, whoever he may be, will need the guile of Wes and the stamina of Gary Holt if CH is thinking of persevering with a 2 man defensive midfield partnership!
a lot of teams play 4-2-3-1 now, but often one of the deep midfield 2 is not as defensive. i think tettey can play more attacking, look at what his was like in the first half of the season; like you say Cromer it's more the tactics that are the problem, not the personnel
No point in breaking the club transfer record to buy a square peg when you have a round hole to fit. I am sure that we will see some further new personnel and a change in formation to suit next season. Tend to agree with DH that Snod could be the only survivor out of Holty/Wes/Pilks and himself unless CH buys a DM capable of running the midfield on his own to free up a slot for another forward. I'd be interested to see how Holt and the Wolf combine as if GH gets his mojo back and a bit of service they could be a potent combination.
I think we'll be holding on to Pilks. He's one of our prize assets, but his form/injury record hasn't been good enough to have a bigger club tempt him away. Because he goes missing at times and, especially this season, has missed large chunks, we forget that he can single-handedly tear up a Premier League defence when on form. Rare, but with a little luck could be more frequent next season. A bit of competition and I think we will see a lot more from him. Completely agree about the bit in bold. I'm excited about this. Although I'm still in the camp that is not convinced he necessarily lost his mojo... I think this is a massive opportunity for Holt.
Excellent post and totally agree – especially the comments re Pilks. I was just discussing his good and bad points with a fellow fan this lunchtime. As you say, he has flashes of brilliance, but can ‘disappear’ in other games. Holt needs to get back to what he's best at and that's attacking defences, as opposed to committing pointless fouls and risking a red card in the process!!
I think Pilkington has been absent too often this season and we can't afford the luxury of that kind of player. For some reason Pilkington seems to be an automatic selection when he is fit, though, which I don't think is good for a player like him. Compare Snodgrass, who is always working his ass off and trying to play himself into the game if he isn't on form.
Totally agree VC - excellent post. He does seem to be 'resting on his laurels' somewhat after his superb winner against ManUre. I think E Bennett played his best game this season for us last week, once he got his eye in for his crosses.
